Boo-hoo! I really wanted Smarty to win. Although, I must say that this proves that The Triple Crown truly is the most difficult sporting event in the world. Still, it's a bummer.

Smarty just wasn't cut out to run 1 1/2 miles. That's what it came down to. Had it been a 1 1/4 like the Preakness he would have won. I'm kinda bummed. I think many just wanted to see a triple crown winner. ~Naj

I'm not sure how Smarty took the loss, but I felt so completely defeated for him yesterday! I have a huge passion for horses and horse racing----and I really believed that this would be the horse to achieve that elusive Triple Crown this year. When he was up in front so soon, it didn't feel right. Then I saw Birdstone racing so flawlessly in fourth, and I knew he would be the spoiler. It felt as though Smarty just wanted to run---I couldn't tell if the jockey really wanted him up in front that soon, as he seemed to be trying to hold him back. In the end, I can't blame a horse for wanting to run, for it was what they're born to do. They say there will never be another Secretariat, and that Triple Crown is hard to conquer, but I'd love to see shades of both one of these years. ~m&m
