something from you and you don't like people using your stuff? How do you eloquently state it?

You say "I'd prefer not to lend this out." There's no shame in telling someone "no".

I simply say "I'd rather they didnt". I guess, if they were close to me they would realise that I dont really like to lend stuff out, and if they didn't know me and I said "no", it wouldnt really matter what they thought of me.

Here's the thing that always happens with me. When i say "I'd rather not lend it out". I get relentless objections and then I get berated. I guess my problem is that I keep replying to their objections when I should just stand in silence. Usually when one responds in silence there's really nothing left to say.

Hmm yea maybe just try that next time. Is it the same group of people who always ask? Sometimes I agree to lend it [if it's not on hand], and then I just "forget" to bring it to them

Sometimes I agree to lend it [if it's not on hand], and then I just "forget" to bring it to them Yes, it's similar with me. But of course, it's always better to be honest and tell someone you don't want to lend him/her that certain thing. Also, when I have to say no, I often try to tell them that it's not about them, but that I personally have a problem with my own things being borrowed by someone else.
