buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/92548?fp=1 Going Up: Price of First-Class Stampby Claudine Zap May 8, 2009 03:14:22 PM Procrastinators, take note. Neither rain nor snow will stop the post office from raising its stamp price on Monday, May 11 by an extra two cents, giving the first-class stamp a hefty 44-cent price tag. (The post office estimates this price increase will cost the average family an extra $3 a year.) At least the USPS had the class to wait until after Mother's Day (ahem, this Sunday) for people to send out their cards before jacking up the price of first-class mail. (Though the post office reviews, and usually increases, postage price every year around now.) And while there's no stopping the march toward the new higher rate, you can at least keep the price of a stamp at its relatively lower rate of 42 cents by running out to snap up "Forever" stamps. Those stamps have no denomination printed on them, so they're honored, well, 'til the end of timeāas long as you use them on one-ounce letters. But should you wait until Monday to purchase your Forever stamps, they'll be at the new rate of 44 cents. Don't say we didn't warn you. ~~~~ I'm trying to remember what years those were when a stamp was 24 cents.

Seems like everything these days is going up, including food. It's a good thing to have e-mail; you don't have to buy stamps to mail something.

Yes, and the fact that people are sending less letters everyday and using email instead

Yes, and the fact that people are sending less letters everyday and using email instead Yes and I wonder if there will be a way someday to charge for those emails. I bet someone will figure a way to make money on it.

E-mail you can easily filter and without much costs, but snail mail... The studios are getting tired of getting fan letters meddling with their ideas of good tv programs, that's it. ;D

There's been talks about charging more for the internet but, as it stands now charging for e-mails isn't really beneficial at all.

Unfortunately, there are too many applications that still want snail mail. Alas, gas is also going up again, just as I'm putting my car back on the road. But, I suppose jacking up the price 2 cents is a better alternative than laying off workers. I'd rather pay the extra 2 cents every time I have to mail something than someone lose their job.

This is a topic I'm very up on!!!
So, first class are up to $.44 cents now. And are called Forever stamps. I'd like to think that means they won't go higher than $.44, but I'm not so confident.
Postcard stamps just went up from $.28 to $.29. Not huge, but still just annoying.
Mexico/Canada stamps went up from $.75 to $.80
And an extra ounce of your letter now costs you $.20 up from $.17
I am obsessed with snail mail. And I don't know who active this board is anymore, but do I have something to tell you!! I hope you'll all try and participate in some small way!!
From September 17th, 2011 - October 1st, 2011, the post office is doing a Count. This means they are counting every single letter, postcard, envelope, package, etc. They are measuring every step your postal worker takes and timing them as well. Once this information is examined, it will determine if that specific postal worker is still needed and will determine their pay!
So, for those two weeks, I am planning on SPAMMING the post office hardcore! Seriously, I'll probably send over 100 individual pieces of mail. I have a friend who is a postal carrier and she is who told me about this nationwide Count. So I'm doing all I can to help and posting about this on various websites!
Sent a letter to a friend or family member. Heck, send a stack of postcards to random people out of the phone book just to brighten their day. Every piece of mail will up the count! Please help our postal workers!!!
