Opening Song: Crazy by Patsy Cline
We now see a woman typing from inside of the house as the date appears on the bottom left hand side of the screen : September 16,1962 as the camera now focuses now on Nancy Patterson whom now is looking around paranoid after hearing a noise coming from somewhere in the house.
Camera zooms in on the typewriters until another strange noise is being heard, before we see a snippet of her poetry.
In the midst of it her husband, Daniel Patterson then comes up from behind and by accident scares her. Getting up the two kiss, before hearing the sound of footsteps coming from her daughter; Rachel whose red hair is tied up in pigtails; proudly showing her parents a drawing.
Nancy tells her that she has beautiful red hair even going on to tell her that her own mother had red hair, as Rachel asked where she is.
After telling her that she is in heaven, Rachel is now being escorted up to bed by Annette; the housekeeper before Daniel leaves. A flash appears on the screen as we now see Nancy now being hung from the rafters of the attic, before seeing an unknown detective typing the cause of death: Suicide before the screen goes black.
Present Day: Shot of a bridge before it zooms up from someone’s shoes displaying a teen with odd hair, which then prompts Valens to make this comment” What’s up with Cyndi Lauper”?
We now discover that Liza is in fact Nancy Patterson’s granddaughter that is coming to both Rush and Valens with some news about her supposed suicide.
Upon pulling out the not, Rush reads it before telling Liza that it is a suicide note, but Liza says that it isn’t stating that Nancy always had wrote on the back of all the photographs now handing a photo to the detectives.
After Liza leaves, Valens says that he isn’t an expert but the handwritings don’t look alike now warranting the case to be reopened.
OPENING CREDITS
Next scene opens in Stillman’s office, as Valens then informs him that the suicide note handwriting wasn’t Nancy’s and Vera adds that Rachel is the one that had found her body. When regarding her husband Daniel, Stillman mentions about him once being a state board Lorie before reciting one of his poems telling that that his ex-wife was into that stuff.
Valens then goes on to say that the husband works at PAL University the same place where he had met Nancy whom was his secretary, as the team now splits up to talk to the husband and daughter which is where both Rush and Valens are right now.
They follow Rachel into the kitchen as for a moment it flashes back to her five year old self, before standing next to her daughter ; Liza. Still she isn’t convinced even going as far to tell the detectives that her mother was very disturbed and she has to accept that whatever had made Nancy like this might be in both her and Liza.
When asked about her stepfather, Rachel informs them that he had sent her off to a boarding school as soon as she had gotten older. But when Rush asked about it was just the two of them in the house, a story begins to unfold.

We now see and hear Rachel running up the stairs, indicating that she is playing hide and seek with her mother. Now running into the attic but as soon as Rachel goes into the trunk we hear Nancy yelling from downstairs that she doesn’t want her going into the attic. After finding her Nancy begins hearing strange noises before discovering that the door is locked, while creepy music begins playing. Rachel begins to get scared until Nancy is able to open the door as the music grows louder with every step, realizing that the door must have jammed.
While holding onto her daughter, we now see a broken vase lying on the floor.
Present day: However Valens begins trying to press Rachel for more answers, before Rush then hands her a card thus ending the conversation.
Next shot is of the exterior of PAL University before seeing a snippet of the note, which is being held by an older Daniel Patterson. He tells both Miller and Vera that for years he had searched for an explanation to what had been happening to his wife, but says that he didn’t kill her and mostly spent all his time here.
Vera then holds up a book entitled “ Empty Rooms” which is a collection of poetry that Daniel says that he tried to capture his wife’s spirit. Somehow since Nancy had spent her time all alone, he then hired a housekeeper: Annette who had prompted Miller to ask if she had keys to the house and attic. Now providing the detectives with a handwriting sample and Annette’s last name, Daniel then tells them that it’s a relief knowing that Nancy didn’t do it herself.
Regular music begins playing as a shot of the exterior of headquarters is now being show, before seeing both Stillman and Jefferies interviewing Annette.
Annette goes on to say that she had been working for them for several months, that Nancy was a beautiful woman full of like until she had started” Slipping”, but recalls a bizarre incident.

Nancy is searching through her papers of poetry, trying to find something. After Annette is about to leaving she then runs up asking if she had locked all the windows and doors, which she answers yes. A breeze then blows in as a paper rustles in the background prompting Nancy to turn around.
Following the paper trail as a paper stands up reading” Death Lurks in the corners of your past, leaving her marks around her neck” with the words Drummond underneath it in bold. Close up on the bold letter before flashing forward to present day.
However Annette didn’t know what that word had meant, but went on to mention about a man once that was parked outside the residences for hours looking up at the attic window.
Next scene shows Stillman, Miller and Vera walking in speaking about the car but found that a brown Buick station wagon was issued a speeding ticket not more than two blocks from the Patterson home. Vera goes on to say that “Speedy” was one of Patterson’s students: Bruce Davies. Looking into a spring social picture both him and Nancy were sweethearts until she married Daniel in 1961.
COMMERICAL
Scene opens with a tree lined street, before showing Jefferies hand knocking on the door. A woman, Belle answers it saying she’s just there to help out with the cooking and cleaning. Jefferies goes to ask her that she doesn’t seem like she’s always been doing that, as Belle says she used to spend her good years dancing.
Now escorting them to Bruce Davies whom is sitting there watching old movies, as he asks them what this is about.
However we now find out the Bruce was neither pining for Daniel not Nancy nor Annette, also mentioning to them at he was interviewing for a teaching position in Cincinnati on the night she had died. He too never believes it was suicide.
Flashback
Daniel is sitting around talking about writing, before Nancy accidently says something before going upstairs to check on Rachel this now leaves both Bruce and Daniel sitting there talking. Suddenly we hear Nancy screaming out her husband’s name, as both him and Bruce run upstairs to the attic seeing her standing nearby the noose in the attic.
Present day
Bruce then tells the detectives that Professor Patterson had asked him to be discreet about his wife’s problems, so he had never spoke about it again. As Rush and Valens interrogate Daniel, we start to hear more of the story.
Daniel didn’t think it was revel vent to mention about the noose in the attic, but didn’t believe it at first because he had believed her.
Flashback

Daniel always hoped for another explanation, but found that there was none. With now Rush believes that they been chasing a ghost.
END SCENE
NEXT SCENE starts out with another exterior shot the front of headquarters.
Vera and Rush walk in while Valens is already seated reading over” Empty Rooms” While Vera pours both him and Rush some coffee.
However Valens isn’t dropping this knowing that there had to be a good reason, as he pushes harder to search for answers; saying that Nancy wouldn’t be the type to leave without saying goodbye. He then mentions that the note wasn’t from anyone that that had interviewed, as Vera tells him to drop it telling him that they “Already rocked the boat with the family”.
After Vera leaves, Lilly looks back at her partner” This isn’t about you, or Elisa or is it” before walking away leaving us a shot of Valens whom is probably thinking about his past girlfriend whom had committed suicide.
Quick shot of the Philly Skyline
Valens then shows the hardware shop’s grandson Nancy’s picture, asking him if his grandfather had sold the rope to her. The grandson says that he had heard the story of her coming into the store many times, saying that she didn’t believe him either.
FLASHBACK
We see Nancy walking up to the counter at the hardware store, explaining about a certain charge on her husband’s account. When Hal shows it to her, she tells him that she’s never once been in his store before. When Hal convinces her that he had seen her himself with his own eyes wearing that same hat she begins to walk away before calling her back, handing her pen reading” Drummond”.
Present day
We now discover that Drummond was a mental hospital in Allney, which had closed down in the 80’s. Next scene shows both Valens and Miller interviewing a nurse over at a rest home, but after showing her a photo of Nancy she said she had come there stating that she was being followed. Evelyn then tells them that the only thing following her was her own past.
Flashback
Interior of Drummond, before Nancy goes up to the front tells asking to speak to someone. A younger Evelyn turns around saying that she was the spitting image of her mother. Evelyn then informs her about the note quoting “My Dearest, my butterfly” assuming that it was her. Nancy begins freaking out disbelieving the nurse until Evelyn inform her that she had found her mother one morning hanging from the rafters.
Cut to the bullpen.
Vera then sits down besides Jefferies informing that the person who had forced Nancy’s handwriting and both the store and her mother’s medical file was that of Annette the housekeeper. As they start figuring that she was trying to drive Nancy insane.
Next scene is with Jefferies and Rush interrogating Annette.
They try and get her to confess, asking her if she was trying to get Nancy out the picture for Daniel. Rush states that they were both from the same neighborhood, around the same age very little in common; except that Annette thought that Nancy was beautiful unlike her.
Rush goes on to say that she wouldn’t know if she could do it, meaning cleaning up and meeting a man like that. A quick flash of young Annette appears telling her that “Women like you take everything for granted” referring to the fact that Rush can easily get her way and the fact that she’s beautiful.
When asked about Drummond, Annette makes a mistake about stating she doesn’t know about that place but confessing to buying the rope among of things; telling them it was for their own good and the fact that Nancy was dangerous.
Brenda Lee- All Alone am I
Annette finds Nancy on the stairs, listening to her talking about her mother’s suicide wondering if the same thing is happening meaning is she too slipping. After calling for Rachel the two rushes upstairs before hearing her crying from inside of the trunk, before a key to it drops out of Nancy’s pocket. Annette then grabs the key and opens it, as she picks up Rachel into her arms.
Present day
Annette states that she wasn’t into harming the child, but wanted to drive Nancy from the house. From in observation, Scotty then realizes he needs to speak with Rachel.
After apologizing to her, Rachel then informs him that her mother did say goodbye to her, that she didn’t know it at the time.
Flashback
Nancy is tucking her daughter into bed stating that she’s her best little girl, that she’ll do anything to protect her. Until Rachel shows her the same drawing but now she drew herself with red hair, until turning it over displaying that it’s one of the poems that Nancy had written, which was found in Daniel’s office.
Present Day
Valens discovers that Rachel still has the drawing before realizing who the culprit of this whole thing is. Now standing inside of Daniel Patterson’s office he says that “ Poetry isn’t really my thing, but this one had gotten to me”, but as he continues speaking before throwing down the book as Vera now shows him the manuscript of one of Nancy’s poetry.
However getting the bottom of it we find out that Daniel had made her nuts so he could steal her work, but he still claims that she had stolen from him. He does on to say that he was so desperate that people expected so much from him, but tells the detectives that they still don’t get how good Nancy was.
Last Flashback
Once in the attic, Nancy comes up from behind him question that he really is. Telling him that it’s him that’s lost his mind; before seeing her mother’s medical records and her manuscripts as Nancy yells that he had took her words.
Daniel then yells saying by twisting reality into no reality telling her that it’s mine and that she had stolen it from him, that its pen has been touched by the gods. Just as Nancy is going to storm off he then chocks her to death.
