of course the songs don't have to be exactly in that year. many of the songs used are a few years back to the intended year as well. the producers typically choose songs close to the theme of the episodes..not just the year. some of those guesses seem a little far fetched out from the implied theme :-)

The episode is set in 1983. I chose 10 songs from 1983. We don't know what kind of music to focus on, so it's a free-for-all. If I'm right or wrong, I don't really care. I'm doing this to have fun.

They could choose songs from 1987 for all we know. Makes it hard to place a guess but I'm just going to try to make one. This is such a memorable year for me for music. I wish to pick them all! Bryan Adams - Cuts Like A Knife 2000 Miles - the Pretenders What is Love - Paul Jones Watching You Watching Me - David Grant Major Tom - Peter Schilling Solitare - Laura Branigan Union of the Snake - Duran Duran

My guesses are: China Girl - David Bowie Chinese Cafe - Joni Mitchell Overkill - Men At Work Don't Cry - Asia Every Breath You Take - The Police Faithfully - Journey Union Of The Snake - Duran Duran Pale Shelter - Tears For Fears This Time - Bryan Adams That's All - Genesis I think it's enough. Good luck everyone!

There are three songs from that year that I thought about that would partially fit in with its lyrics
Moonlight Shadow - Mike Oldfield New Year's Day - U2 Sunday Bloody Bunday - U2
although not those songs but U2 was featured in one episode already and first one may be too Scottish

Hey everyone, Cold Case is not showing on CTV at 8 tonight. The Mentalist is on instead. Looks like I am going to have to wait to watch it.

The Police - Every Breath You Take
I was very surprised to hear that song in the closing montage. I guess it matched with the 80's theme and with main and side plot but still it took me by surprise.

I have to admit I was taken by surprised too; especially when you take to mind that the song's about stalking.

But then the last scene of Lilly in Eddie's empty place would suggest that he had to move but he'll be around/watching her. Or maybe it has some more hidden meaning with Eddie+Lilly+gun+Moe+stalking? Now I wonder even more why they chose that song for closing montage...

You gotta be kiddin' me. I never though they would play "Every Breath You Take", even though I guessed it. That's cool

It's not really a perspective, that's what the song is actually about. Sting has said as much numerous times over the years. It's why he also said he's shocked whenever he hears people choose it as a wedding song because the lyrics are not about anything warm and fuzzy.

I didn't know this about this song. I was a bit befuddled when that was the song playing at the end. It was weird but now if fits quite well with Lilly and Eddie.

Well, if you think about it as well, the CTA were pretty much running China-Town by watching everything that was going on.
But, yeah, the ending song seemed like it was pointing more at Lilly and Eddie. I wouldn't say that the writers had something warm and fuzzy in mind though.
...hmm almost reminds me of when they used Pearl Jam's - "Once" as the opening song for "Into the Blue" in the episode, the song didn't make sense, but now season 7? Oh yeah, it makes sense!

"Age of Consent" -- New Order "Other Voices" -- The Cure " " -- (plays when Ray arrests Jack for having a knife) " " -- (plays when Warren ask Jack to get Stacey back) "Twilight Zone" -- Golden Earring "Every Breath You Take" -- The Police Anyone got the other two?

The first unknown song in your list sounds like "Oh Yeah" by Yello. The 2nd one I can't figure out.

As for the second song, it's no problem -- thanks to TuneFind and watching the actual episode itself I figured it out -- the song's "Invisible Sun" by The Police. The new info's been edited into the song list below. "Age of Consent" -- New Order "Other Voices" -- The Cure " " -- (plays when Ray arrests Jack for having a knife) "Invisible Sun" -- The Police "Twilight Zone" -- Golden Earring "Every Breath You Take" -- The Police
