This is definitely one of the show's finest hours in my opinion. Everything just worked. It was awesome!

Disaster - you're not the only person. I can't really nail it down, but this episode didn't work for me either. It's a tragic case and Rita is a wonderful character, but, uhm, well, I don't know what it is. Maybe it was the acting, the way the story was told... Perhaps I'll come up with more if I rewatch it. For myself, I think this is one of those odd episodes where there really aren't too many characters in the case I have much sympathy for other than obviously the victim. I feel sympathy for Rita's mom, though with some restraint because she seems to have pulled herself through it... Other than that, I couldn't find much empathy for any of the three girls, Neil, nor his parents. This *doesn't* make me dislike the episode, though. I think it was incredibly good--close to excellent, even. It just left me feeling uncomfortable that here's this wonderful little girl who died for a senseless reason, and none of the suspects in this case seems to share that same feeling. Not even Neil. (I think he's a nutcase for the murder *he* committed.) The people involved around Rita's death were all a very strange group of self-absorbed individuals that I wouldn't want to be with. There's a lot of interesting comments on this thread that I enjoyed reading. I'd like to add that I thought they filmed this really well. It definitely felt like the whole episode was shot here in Philly and on location at Chestnut Hill.

Watched this ep last night on TNT and I forgot how much I like it! Of course, I totally loved it when Lilly was staring at Brandi and she said "What are you looking at ?" and Lilly quickly snaps back with "NOTHING." I love when Lilly gets an attitude towards people, it makes it all the more fun to watch ;D

Just saw the episode. I really wanted to saw Brandy’s head off for killing the cat ! Even though her parents were treating her horribly, there is no excuse for being cruel to animals.

No excuse... but not shocking either. Sadly, many victims of abuse repeat the pattern... not only because it makes them feel better, but because of how they've been raised... it's okay to beat and torture a child, adult or animal who angers you. And even sadder.. many of them do it and don't even realize it.

Saw this episode for the first time a few years ago but took a few years for me to get into the show.. LOL
I gotta defend Nick though... Do we know for sure that he knew that Scotty's girl was very sick? I think only Lilly and John knew but I don't think he told Will or Nick. But Nick shouldn't be so rude IF he knew Elissa was in a psychiatric ward.
I liked how they showed that junior high and high school can be a tough time for teens but could be worse if your home life sucks.
