I really enjoyed this ep. I liked the case.
I freaking loved the scenes with Kat and Scotty. Very well done.
I also loved Lilly and Will at the end. So funny!
I love seeing Lilly this laid back and having fun. Awesome to see.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm lovin' Fun Lilly. I think you do know about me The bowling scene did show that Lilly realised that, yes, Eddie was leaving but that it was out of duty (which she understands) and she knows he'll miss her. It wasn't the same with Ray, Joseph and Kite.

I really enjoyed this episode, more than last week's (which I have to re-watch under better conditions). Usually when it involves a fatal fall, I expect myself to cringe at the murder scene - Best friends and Fly Away are the only ones that turned out great - well I still did but not as much as I would have if it hadn't been accidental. The case was not very strong and a little bit too predictable (they are abusing of the that was the last time I saw him/her because that's invariantly never the case : but I was too hypnotized by the gorgeous cinematography, the 70s atmosphere and the great music to bother. And at least this time, the suspects that lied or hid information really had understandable reasons. I'm glad that they brought a love interest for Kat without having to go through the date. We know she's happy, we get those awesome friendship scenes with Scotty (I had to re-watch the car scene 3 times) and no wasted screen time with a new character (he seemed very cute though). Very well done. So far this season, all the interactions between the detectives have been great. My only complaint is that we didn't get much of Stillman. The investigations require also more detective work besides questioning (DMV files, gun tracking, Tupperware group infiltration , crime scene visit, DNA test, van search) which breaks the monotony and adds realism. I am very happy with the slight change of formula this season on the character/team development... let's just hope the ratings go up !

I liked this episode. It wasn't as great as Wednesday's Women but it really captured the atmosphere of the late 70s very well. I'm old enough to remember 1978 (I was a kid, but I remember it), and this episode just "felt" very right for the time period, from the music to the clothes to the hairstyles, to the atmosphere in the roller rink. It was very well done, and a very sad ending that made feel very sorry for both Julie and Hugh. I found myself wondering if maybe Hugh had been patient and just been a good friend to Missy for another year or so, she may have eventually started liking him "that way". It was very sad. I liked when Julie gave the jacket back to Missy's mom at the end.
Good episode. Not best-ever good, but very well done.

...as Boxman pointed out, I freakin' LOVED how they used that wonderful platonic friendship between Kat and Scotty to counterpoint the eventual decline of Hugh and Missy. "Platonic"--That's the word! I also loved the theme of 'growing' up that surrounded Missy - moving from tomboyishness to make-up, and then - at the end - reverting back to the childlike tomboy she once was, when she realises exactly what the grown-up world has to offer. I thought the actress who played Missy did a good job. She played that cusp between being a girl and being a young woman very well. I totally agree, the Missy casting was great! When they announced a few years ago that they were trying to gear stories for a younger audience, I was concerned that the cases wouldn't interest me. Now that the two of you mention it, I think another reason why I really enjoyed this episode is the "coming-of-age" factor in Missy, Julie, and Hugh's stories. A lot of the teen cases so far have used this angle to some degree in their stories (such as "Running Around", "That Woman", "Shuffle", and "Knuckle Up"), and I'm really enjoying them. I don't know about you guys, but I'm lovin' Fun Lilly. She's so much better than stick- in- the- mud- Debbie- Downer Lilly of seasons past. I am actually seeing shades of season one, and that most certainly, is a good thing. Perhaps, the most encouraging element of Fun Lilly is her lack of an emotional breakdown over Saccardo's sudden work-related departure. Of course, she gets it (it's work), but she doesn't seem to have skipped a beat in his absence and that is some sure-fire improvement. I just LOVED that final scene with she and Jeffries racing around that rink for bragging rights! I saw a slight parallel between Lilly and Missy here. Missy began to realize that maybe all she needed to be happy in that period of her troubled life was a true friend, rather than a boyfriend or a guy that just wanted to make out with her. With Lilly, it seem the same is true with how she's finding happiness with just going rollerskating with Jeffries, go drinking with Kat and Scotty at McGinty's, or to simply go bowling with Saccardo (to whom she knew wasn't going to be a lasting relationship). I'm glad that they brought a love interest for Kat without having to go through the date. We know she's happy, we get those awesome friendship scenes with Scotty (I had to re-watch the car scene 3 times) and no wasted screen time with a new character (he seemed very cute though). Very well done. When they finally showed Kat's blind date, I thought to myself, "What the...." If Kat would walk out on a date with a guy like that, then what kind of chances do schmucks like me get with women?? ;D ...Tupperware group infiltration ... LOL.... ...I found myself wondering if maybe Hugh had been patient and just been a good friend to Missy for another year or so, she may have eventually started liking him "that way". It was very sad.... I thought that scene where they went skating was really beautiful. I liked the way the incidental music sounded very similar to Tangerine Dream's soundtrack to "Risky Business". To me, this helped in hinting that late-night hour in this story to another great coming-of-age story from the past. I was also thinking what if Missy and Hugh's relationship went beyond dating? Would it be possible that Hugh and Missy would've gotten married? Because that moment where they went skating in Fairmount Park is really the kind of stuff many couples like to fondly look back on. I could sadly imagine a possible future for the two, where at their wedding reception they tell their guests about "that night in 1978 when we went rollerskating in Fairmount Park at 5:00AM in the morning...." How sad that would never happen...

I gave this episode a good, it was a perfect follow up to the drama of Wednesday's Women, with plenty of lighter moments, despite the fact they were dealing with the tragic death of a 15 year old. How much did I love the Scotty/Kat scenes? Soooo very much, I'm stlll in a state of squee. I do like the way they seem to be giving more time to personal interaction between the detectives this season. We even got a twofer this episode, with the delightful end scene of Lilly and Will roller skating. Can't imagine earlier season Lilly doing that, can you? Great stuff. I suppose the doer was fairly inevitable but I felt they did a decent job of trailing red herrings past our nose. Loved the bit where they arrested the sleazy DJ for moving violations and Scotty's snark of "What say we can find a nice, big cell mate to do the locomotion with you." Bwah! Line of the episode! Seems to me this season is just getting better and better and long may it continue

VERRRRRRRY disappointed with the end. Not fond of those "all guys are either jerks or stalker/killer-types" episodes at all. I especially hate it when the character I identify with most is doer. Oddly enough, I much prefer when the character I identify most with is the VICTIM (maybe I should talk to someone about this desire to relate to murder victims. )

Loved it.
The use of DNA, awesome. Roller disco, double awesome. Hot Roller Skating Lilly, mmmm.... ahem. Ok, but I will echo everyone that is really liking the direction they are taking her character this season. Whoever said shades of S1 Lilly, bingo. Loving it, and loving the camaraderie between all the detectives this season. And although I knew who the doer was the second he spoke (as an adult), I was actually pleasantly surprised by the ending. Well, as "pleasantly" anything as one can be when watching a death scene, but I digress. The whole time leading up to it I was dreading the inevitable "boy comes on to girl, girl rejects boy, boy gets into a rage and inexplicably becomes a murderer in 2.5 seconds" - ala "Superstar," and "War at Home" (the most re-donk-ulous death scene in the history of this show, and that includes the clock bludgeoning ep). But they didn't go there. The struggle happened out of desperation on Hugh's part, not rage - and it truly was an accident. I can even overlook the fact that they oh so conveniently happened to be right next to a deep ravine when it happened.
Oh yes, and Drunk Kat/Designated Driver Scotty were amazing.
Good job, show. After the first 2 eps I really thought this season was going to suck (first one was a'ight, second one I seriously don't even remember at all, it was that boring) but "Wednesday's Women" and this one were great so hopefully the rest of the season follows suit.
Is it just me, or did Ratchford pack on some serious lbs during the hiatus?

I liked this episode. It was a classic Cold Case ep. Not too much to figure out but you didn't know how it ended. At least Hugh didn't push Missy out of jealousy. I was hoping that wasn't going to be it because it's been used too much in the writing. So it was an accident. How many cases have ended like this on the series. I didn't mind. I enjoyed the underscore! Scotty and Kat? I like it. Bring it on! Kat looked so nice with her hair up. Did Scotty notice? I wonder if they will get closer. Who was that dude Kat is dating - he remnds me of Barak Obama. Will and Lilly skating was cute. I loved it!!!!

I loved this episode. I would never have guesed it was accidental. I also loved that lilly is so much happier. she was so depresed in the past two seasons that i never though- only hoped- she would be the happy lilly from season one again...and she is way happier then before. I'm glad to see her having a social life this season- the date with saccardo and the roller skating with will in this episode. I also liked that they showed some of the characters lives other that lilly- i love lilly but sometimes i wonder about the other characters too.

I loved this episode, it got an excellent from me as well. I think the main reason is that it really reminds me of season 1 episodes, where you could see "light" interactions between the detectives. For example, the conversations between Lilly and Scotty when they were smiling about their respective relationships, before the angst came in. I think collider and boxman gave a great insight on the episode. For example, I never went to Philly, I used to live closed to Charm City (Baltimore for those of you who don't know) so I don't have much insights on the decorum of the show.
[However I do agree with Tracie when she said in an interview that Bmore knows that Philly's cheesesteak is better]
I enjoyed the different friendships between the characters of the case. I also agree that Missy just needed a friend at that time. I did not see the "accident" coming even though it actually put even more tragedy in the entire story. I agree the case was "lighter" than the week before but they were still able to depict so many things in only 50 minutes. This season, so far, has been a real pleasure to watch and cannot wait for next Monday (that's when I can watch the eps on my computer)

My guess is we didn't see them put them on because it just made the scene easier.
I don't know what the law is on seatbelts in the US. Are they compulsory nationwide, or do individual states have a say?

Are they compulsory nationwide, or do individual states have a say? Seat belt laws are administered on a state-by-state basis: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seat_belt_legislation#United_StatesIIRC at one time in Pennsylvania, cab drivers were exempt from wearing seat belts due to the danger they pose during a carjacking. (I think cab driver are now required to wear seat belts.) Anyway, the point is that exemptions are made in these kind of laws, and I wouldn't be surprised if police officers are exempt from wearing seat belts due to the type of work they do.

I wasn't suggesting that cops were exempt in anyway, plus Kat & Scotty would likely have been considered off duty anyway. In the UK seat belts have been mandatory for over 20 years, I wasn't sure how things stood in the US. Plus, I know that some things vary from state to state. Looks like only New Hampshire doesn't require them. Interesting to read in that piece that a report in the UK shows that total fatalities didn't really change since the seat belt law came in, the deaths shifted to pedestrians and cyclists.

Re: seat belts, I know some states will fine the driver if any of their passengers aren't wearing seat belts, but they are. Which is why if you get into my car and you're not wearing it, I'll tell you to either put it on or get out of the car. Those fines are very steep.

I rewatched this one yesterday and I like it more-Not like WW or True Calling but It was a very good one. I liked the way Lilly saw Missy in the end-she was truly sad because of the way she died(like victims in Superstar, Justice and Time to crime) This DJ flirting with Lilly... Lol Jeffries and Lilly skating was cool...

Good episode. I really liked the Kat/Scotty part. That was so cool for Kat to ask for a ride and get busted by Stillman who picks up the phone. HA!! I don't know why it'd be fun for Vera or any of the cast to fall down roller skating.. shame on them for thinking that. Loved the Vera/Jefferies scene concerning the evidence guy.. hamburlgar. Hehe I liked Kat's second date with the guy but come on Kat.. What was so bad? I liked seeing Will and Lilly skating, that was so cute.
