irishkale, thank you so much for this !! you're great. I still have at least a month before I'll be able to watch the whole episode, so this helps a lot. The 2nd clip is so interesting. Obviously I need to watch the whole episode to give a better opinion, but when Lilly mentioned her old flame, their farm and the little girl, it wasn't clear for me whether Lilly was talking about something they dreamed about, or about something she actually had and lost. --One thing I have to think about in clip #2: Lilly is an experienced interrogator... I wonder if her story about herself is genuine or if she is trying to establish confidence with Bobbi in order to get her to tell HER story. (i.e. Can we really believe Lilly is telling the truth about herself?) I've been wondering about that for a long time. I wouldn't be surprised with she made up some stories to establish a connection with the witness. I feel it's acceptable in her job. However, I would be really disappointed if I knew that everything that she told about her personal life is a lie. I do believe in the things she tells.

This is an interesting puzzle. I was wondering if everything she said was honest or not as well. The only thing that struck me was the last scene when she "saw" herself and Mr. Perfect on the motorcycle. That was a private moment between Lilly and the audience, so I think it's safe to assume it to be true. The question is, how much of the story she told to Bobbi was true. I think there had to be basic elements of truth (based on her reaction to telling it) like the motorcycle part. Lilly really is a mystery, but I think that's part of what makes her so interesting. Thanks for posting the clips Irishkale!

Oy. I just typed this nice, long post, only to find out when i clicked 'post' that i wasnt logged in.... so i lost the whole thing. nuts. I missed the beginning of this ep (stupid vcr), so im a little confused about the interaction between Lilly and Scotty at the beginning (unless it was later and i just wasnt paying attention) but scotty has, or might have, a new girlfriend? who? But the part i did get to see, i really enjoyed. i really liked the black and white flashbacks, and black and white isnt usually something i like watching. but i think it worked here. I was really surprised when they figured out that the bones werent Hanks (although i dont know how they identified him in the first place) but it was an unexpected twist. id did explain though, why bobby's husband was so cool about her talking about Hank. Although i have to say, if it was me, id be nervous that they would find out who i was. But it wouldnt have been as interesting and mysterious if hank had just been like "no, your not talking to my wife" because it would have been kind of obvious.... and i agree with whoever mentioned this before, i dont think hank should be labeled as a killer. he was defending himself, against a man with a crowbar. and the warden.... well he was just plain bad i was confused by Scotty seeing Jonny at the end as well, i didnt really think he had much of a connection at all, and i thought Lilly had a strong one. Now to Lilly ;D At first, when all lilly said was- "i knew someone like him.... once." i was like MORE DETAILS, PLEASE!! its a good thing i was by myself when i was watching this, because my family would have thought i had some serious issues after that scene ;D Im not sure whether she was lying about the 'farm dream' I cant decide if she was being 'true blue' (heh, they used that phrase a couple times) about her life, or if she was being Interrogator Lilly. My gut says she was telling the truth, especially the part about her fiance, i guess, selling his motorcycle to buy their wedding bands. And the details about them moving upstate to the farm, him working on the field and her spending time in the house with their daughter, seemed a little too specific and thought out for her to be making it up, at least to me. One thing that bothers me though, is how did she go from being a wife, with a daughter, living on a farm, to being a single, childless, living in Philly cop? I think that something might have happened to her, maybe after she got married, that changed her mind. Because in my mind, being married with a kid living on a farm DOESNT sound like the Lilly i know. i know that there is something that i wrote before that im forgetting, but i guess ill think of it later. oh, and one more thing----we got a smile!! not one of those fake, polite smiles lilly gives, a real one!!!

TruBlu - They identified Hank by the prisoner number he had on his shirt when they found the bones. Regarding Scotty dating, the only scene that mentioned it is the one (it sounds like) you saw. Lilly seemed to notice that Scotty "knew" that girl well, so she smiled at him. He was embarrised and seemed to ask her to drop it. I'm guessing it will come up again.

i don't think she really HAD a little girl cause she started out with : "we WERE going to move upstate and live on a farm".... so they didn't actually live on the farm and then later she said : "I had this image in my mind: he's out in the field, I'm in the kitchen with my little girl...yadda, yadda, yadda" I think it was just an 'image,' like that was where she thought she was going to be, where she thought she would end up, or where she wanted to end up, you know?
I could be wrong, though.

I think part of what Lily said concerning the guy she once knew was true. I think that's why she sort of fell for Hank and Bobbi. She could relate to the boy who would do anything for her. Remember, she did say that she knew someone like Hank. That guy could be her childhood sweetheart but as to what happen to him we don't know just yet. Hank and Bobbi obviously brought back the memeory of a love gone. I don't think Scotty has a new girlfriend. I think he's flirting around but I don't think he wants everyone to know since they know about his situation with Alyssa. (spelling?) I think he's testing the market right now. Anyway, that lady doesn't look like his type. foujylos.notlong.com [/IMG] But then again neither did Alyssa. foujylos.notlong.com [/IMG] Tracylynn

this one was really good! I was so surprised at the end. great story.
The Lilly stuff was great. I was amazed with how she used her own story to understand Bobbi and get to the truth. I didn't realize that Lyle was Hank until Lil said it. She was so smart in that moment, it made me feel really dumb.
wow, I totally missed the stuff about Scotty's supposed girlfriend... I'll need to rewatch this one.

Maybe being totally dozy but all I got from that scene with Lily/Scotty was that the girl (Frannie?) mispronounced his surname and he mouthed it to Lily who smiled at him?

I must say this was a good episode. Straight storytelling with not really any background of the detectives. I do like Johnny Cash but the music really didn't affect me too much. That warden was so mean! And that prison guard was a pig IMO.
I don't believe Lilly's little talk to Bobby about a time where she wanted to move upstate and live on a farm. That would mean that Lilly is living pretty close to where I live! :smile41: This was a good ep with an element of surprise at the end about Hank. I liked that.

Good evening everyone, Hey, this is the Byrdman checking in tonight. I hope everyone is doing okay tonight, and that you are all ready for a great upcoming week! Anyway, I had never seen tonight's episode, and I thought it was good. Lilly (and by mention, KM) gave a great performance. She really showed some of her soft side in this episode, I thought. She smiled much more, I thought (which is a good thing! She was telling Stillman about how she admired Hank over the warden (even over Stillman's protest to be on the side of the law), and she was discussing to Hank's wife how she had that special someone once. I take it she was meaning her ex-fiance, but maybe we will find out more about that next season. And to top the episode off, Johnny Cash's music was cool too. I loved hearing "Folsom Prison Blues" at the beginning, and the best was "Ring of Fire." That is a cool song. Come on everyone, sing along! "I fell into a burnin ring of fire. I went down, down, down, and the flames went higher..." (ha!) I should stop singing now, I was just pretty fired up. Take care, and have a great night, everyone!

Yea, the soundtrack was awesome in this ep and I found myself singing along a bit too. ;D I caught the tail end of this episode tonite and it struck me that I really liked this episode more than the first time around. A big seller was the likability of Johnny and the black and white flashbacks. This episode also had an untraditional ending, which I had forgotten about. I liked this one moreso than upon first viewing last fall.

It also had the great scene between Lilly and Scotty when Frannie came in to tell them about the hands. LOVE the look on Lilly's face in that scene! I have the song in my head now byrdman! No worries, though, I too am a big fan of that song.

Yes, that is an actual prison in Philadelphia you saw in this episode. It's called the "Eastern State Penitentiary", and I highly suggest reading the Wikipedia entry that I've linked. Good insight into the background of the modern penitentiary system in the US. Oddly, this being October, I think it might be interesting to mention that the penitentiary (long closed), is still used every now-and-then for "special events". Click HERE. --- In addition to giving some hints about McRay that we see more of in seasons three and four, there's several recurring symbols in this episode. Automobiles, such as the getaway car, tend to be near people who commit crime. It's curious to note that Scotty is in a car during the closing montage. Does this foreshadow some of his "extra-curricular" crime fighting towards the end of season three?? Or does this reinforce some of the things we've already seen up until this point as in "Late Returns"?? Or is there some other crime Scotty will be committing in the future that is being foreshadowed here?? Hmmm.... Automotive repairmen (or people who work on cars in general) are usually ex-cons. For example, Stump in "Frank's Best", Julious in "Dog Day Afternoons", and Timmy (a bum at the end of a car wash) in "Schadenfreude". Black leather jackets, an attire usually reserved for criminals. A gift of boots, that recurs in "Dog Day Afternoons". Fishing on the lake (a Water image) in the closing montage, symbolizing changing fate. Confession of truth in the kitchen/dining area of the house. This is seen so many times in the series, in episodes such as in "The Hen House", "The River", and even "Rampage" to only name a few. This must be a very significant recurring theme, not only because it's seen rather often, but as being in the kitchen--Lilly says in this episode--is an important part of a life that Lilly once dreamed about. Kinda unusual, but also in 1.16 "Volunteers", abortion by the motorcycle guy is performed in the kitchen. Make of that what you will.

Interesting information about the kitchens, boxman. Lilly shared the info about her father with Joseph in the kitchen in this season's "The War at Home." I never noticed this "kitchen confession" trend before, but it's very interesting.
