Looking at a source, the case is from 1963 Seeing as the episode's title is November 22nd, I can't see how it would have been from any year OTHER than 1963.

I have money on the ending montage being connected to John F. Kennedy's death. I don't know why, I just think that the writers wouldn't pass up an opportunity to incorporate it somehow.

I think we might see or hear about what happened to JFK right as the Boxman is filing the victims box away; before flashing to the present day. It just seems logical to me, I don't know.
