The chances of us seeing Kite again are dimming with news of this new pilot. A side note, one of the executive producers of this pilot, Shawn Levy, directed the recent comedies, Cheaper by the Dozen, Just Married and Big Fat Liar. With those comedies under his belt, it is interesting that he is venturing into Drama. PEPPER DENNIS (UPN) - Josh Hopkins ("Ally McBeal") has joined the cast of the drama pilot, about a Chicago-based TV reporter (Rebecca Romijn) who juggles her career, love and family lives. Hopkins, who spent the past development season as part of the WB's failed drama pilot "Global Frequency," is understood to be playing Charlie Bishop, a man who Pepper (Romijn) has a one-night stand with only to learn he's the new anchor at WEYE, the station where she works. The 20th Century Fox Television-based project comes from executive producers Aaron Harberts, Gretchen Berg and Shawn Levy. source: www.thefutoncritic.com

Here's a bit more info on the pilot: PEPPER DENNIS (The WB) - Rebecca Romijn ("X-Men," "The Punisher") has been cast in the lead role of the drama pilot, about an ambitious TV news reporter in Chicago who tries to balance work, romance and a crazy family. Romijn's involvement lifts the cast-contingency off the pilot, which will now be shot as a full-fledged pilot instead of just a presentation. Here's how the casting notice describes her character: "Pepper Dennis: Mid 20s. Ambitious, talented Chicago TV news reporter Pepper Dennis is an expert at juggling her loving but intrusive Midwestern family and her demanding career. Pepper is at the top of her game, but she believes that her success comes at a price: If she wants to achieve her goal of being her station's news anchor, she must put the concept of romance on hold. Therefore, when she has a one-night stand with new-in-town Charlie Bishop, she sees it as a no strings attached, bittersweet evening. However, when she learns that Charlie has actually just relocated from Boston to be the new anchor at WEYE, she must re-think her stand on a possible love relationship. Must Have Great Comedic Timing." Writer/producers Gretchen Berg & Aaron Harberts ("North Shore") and feature director Shawn Levy ("Cheaper by the Dozen") are behind the project, which is set up at 20th Century Fox Television. source: www.thefutoncritic.com

I can't say that I'll miss his character. But if he stays I have no idea how he would fit in.
I am curious what they had originally planned for him on Cold Cold, though, had he been an on going character. (guess that's a questions for InsideR if anyone wants to inquire)

For the actor's sake, I hope this one works out for him. He's had a run of bad luck with pilots. It would be nice to see Kite from time to time, but I've gotten used to not having him around this season.

Josh's show "Pepper Dennis" was picked up for Midseason by the WB today. A time slot has yet to be established. Yet another blow to the Lilly and Kite fans out there. Like me. Oh well, great news for Josh. source: www.thefutoncritic.com/cgi/pr.cgi?&id=20050517wb01
