Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - On Wednesday, Brandon Routh will appear in the release of the new movie, wearing the Superman costume again, but this time he will be earning $204 million as the star in the "Superman Returns" movie by Warner Bros. Pictures, which has made him into an instant celebrity.
Routh, whose last name rhymes with "South," stands over 6 feet tall, is 26 years old, was born in Iowa, and has an uncanny resemblance to the late actor Christopher Reeves.
Routh decided to dress up as Clark Kent in 2003 for a Halloween contest at the Lucky Strikes bowling alley in Hollywood, where he was working as a bartender. The aspiring actor won the $100 first prize as he worked that night as the "Man of Steel," with his Superman shirt displayed beneath his Clark Kent suit.
According to the Associated Press, Routh said, "I thought, well, OK, this is an easy costume to put together because I have a Superman shirt already and I have a suitcoat, and I just need to buy some thick Clark glasses."
Routh first obtained work in the entertainment field in 1999 on an episode of the short-lived ABC sitcom, "Odd Man Out."
Then Routh played on four episodes of MTV's nighttime soap opera "Undressed" in the year 2000. Routh was also featured in the "What a Girl Wants" video by Christina Aguilera. Also in 2000, he made an appearance on the "Gilmore Girls" show.
Thereafter, Routh was steadily employed in an acting role playing Seth Anderson on the ABC daytime soap opera "One Life to Live" in the years 2001 and 2002. He has since been a guest as an actor in CBS's "Cold Case," NBC's "Will & Grace," and Fox's "Oliver Beene."
Before Warner Bros. casted Routh in the leading role of Superman Returns, a decade was spent developing the plans to launch the film and find an appropriate actor for the movie, which included Nicolas Cage and Ashton Kutcher.
Routh, states on his website, "I'll be in Hollywood, California for the 10:00 p.m. Superman Returns showing at Grauman's Chinese Theatre ... on ... [June] ... 27th. If you're in the area, say 'hi.' Also, the past 1.5 years has been pretty amazing and I want to thank you for visiting the site. Enjoy the film!"
