The episode opens up with “Maybe Tomorrow by Stereophonics” as we see a rather large boat out that’s docked on the pier the date is May 20th, 2005. The Camera takes us there the pier seeing guys working as it focus now on three men which one of the men say that the drinks are on him. The last guy on the right Mike says no that he’ll get some real food; but the other man asks for Mike to still come. However Mike wants to work on his boat and he’s taking it to Florida this year. The middle man laughs saying the guy on the right he’ll bet that he won’t get around to doing it. Camera zooms around the dock giving us a nice view of the pier before dropping lower as Mike walks now alone between two containers until hearing an unfamiliar noise. Comes out hearing someone coughing before knocking; as the instrumental music grow serious while he calls out “ Hello “ several times but receives no answer. Using a pair of pliers he undoes the wiring before lifting up some handle before the camera gives us a peek inside from the back of the container seeing that it’s people inside.
The music is still of a serious tone as we see a lot of women sitting there looking scared. Mike comes closer they huddle together as if thinking he’s out to harm them, before an unknown girl moves away displaying a young woman lying there looking extremely sick. Mike feels both her pulse and forehead saying she’s burning up, but when says to her that he’s taking her out of here she says no. He then picks up the young girl carrying her out as two other unknown young girls get up pulling the container doors shut as if afraid of something bad happening to them. The camera is still inside but as soon as the doors shut the dramatic music stops; in an unknown place blood splatter is on the walls and tiles while the camera pans downward. Half of a broken lamp is there lying on the floor while a trail leading to a pool of blood is been shown; before we see Mike lying face down with a blow to the head. The camera continues its trail down his body until noticing that there is no sock or shoes but cigarette burns on the back of his feet with a cigarette lying next to his leg.
A box is getting wheeled up by one of the Box man before being placed on the top shelf. Camera zooms in reading “CHULASKI, M” before fading to black. Usual music opens us up with a shot of the sign Police Headquarters as we see ADA Thomas speaking to now Stillman, Lilly and Scotty who’s standing up while she hands something out to them telling them about the Feds that are building a case again Nickownic : Russian word for Boss. The person’s never been found or known but had been known for human trafficking: importing young girls over here for prostitution. ADA Thomas hands Stillman over a picture of a Jane Doe who was found in the water yesterday.
Goes on further to hand Rush a picture of the unknown girl’s feet showing cigarette burns on the back. Both Valens and Rush don’t recall anyone matching that same MO but Stillman does before getting up and pulling out a book; turning towards a picture of Mike and the same marks as the unknown girl quoting it might be a key to solving this before the camera focuses on the marks before cutting to our wonderful credits. Coming back we’re in the warehouse surrounded by lovely boxes as Jefferies reads out that Mike worked at Marine terminal. Miller states he had no family and it was six days before anyone reported him missing before showing a picture of his boat to Jefferies. Miller goes on to say that Mike was bludgeoned by a lamp plenty of prints but no matches but a motel guy said another guy rented the room but couldn’t describe him. Camera then focus on Stillman who has the paperwork from the boxes that come into the terminal the ones that the FBI says the human cargo had come in where Mike’s stock gang was working but states that nothing happens in shipper without the foreman knowing about it. Instrumental music starts playing as we find out that Stillman worked on the docks back at the age of sixteen as he heads over to speak to Roy Mike’s boss.
Vera comes with him as they try to get answers out about the human cargo seeing if Mike was in on it. Roy admits the money was good but Mike never knew about it saying that wasn’t who he was and had no idea until that morning. Flashback this time with the song” Let there is love” by Oasis plays in the background as Roy watches Mike blotting the young girl’s forehead. Mike asks what to do since she’s so young before the young woman in Russian accent speaks” Sixteen not so young”. Mike tells his boss they need to call the cops but the woman says the guy has a job for her. Mike disagrees stating that she doesn’t want a job working with him. Roy motions for him to come closer seeing the girls running into a white van telling him to put the woman back or Kiril will kill him.
Mike rushes back over asking her if she has a family here as the woman says she’s from an orphanage in Ukraine. That hits home since Mike also is an orphan as well, asking his boss if he knows what it feels like not to have anybody stating he’s not putting her into the van and won’t if ask again wanting them both to go down to the cops. Present day the detectives find out that Kiril is an American who transported the girls a middle man before Stillman says wanting to talk to Roy by himself. Roy finally says he never had a number just dumped the containers where Kiril wanted them so he could pick them up. When asked who he worked for Roy replied” Nicholnic” stating that he was terrified of the guy; but Mike took Lena the girl back to his boat stating he was going to help her. Getting her a visa and paying a visit to a community center.
Camera flies by showing beautiful shots of Philly before we see Rush and Valens speaking to a woman who speaks with a Russian accent. Rush asked the woman if any of the girls mention the name” Nicholnic” but the woman states they never give any details. Valens asks if she tried to help Lena which we see another flashback with the song” Good as Good” By Sheryl Crow playing. Lena tells Mike she has no money but Mike tells her that this woman would help her for free, telling her in America people do stuff because they are kind.
The woman tells Mike that Lena doesn’t qualify and that she is here illegally and will be deported. Lena tells him she can’t go back having no money or family that nothing’s there. Then she says she hungry as Mike hands her some money before she leaves as he tells the woman that growing up alone is hard. The camera shows that Lena isn’t going to the vending machine but to a payphone while we hear more of him talking before she walks out the door wearing an Eagles sweatshirt. Mike then notices that Lena is gone as he gets up running out to find her as the flashback stops returning back to the present day. Outside Valens figures out that the only person Lena could have called was Kiril thinking she goes to meet him as Rush’s cell rings while she finishes up saying that possible Mike tracked her and he killed him.
Flipping open the phone Valens looks at her as Rush states she needs some lost hours. We now hear a guy’s voice now seeing it’s a landlord from her mother’s apartment saying he last her mother a week alone won’t answer the door, saying how she’s always saying how her daughter’s got a good job a smart girl. This is something new to Lilly since her upbringing wasn’t that great, the landlord asks if she could take care of the rent since it was due three weeks ago.
After he unlocks it Rush runs in seeing her mother lying on the floor unconscious; telling the landlord to call 911. When the commercials end we see Rush standing there by the door as her mother lies there on a bed as she awakens; as Rush tells her sarcastically “Nice job ending up in the ER”. Her mother wants to go home but Lilly stops her stating she now has late stage cirrhosis and is getting admitted. As usual her mother asks her want she wants before Lilly sucks in the tears telling her she’s going to have to come live with her saying now she doesn’t have a choice.
The next seen we see a little banter brewing between ADA Thomas and Valens who’s growing annoyed about the fact she doesn’t even care about the victim Mike only to get the ringmaster. This continues out into the hallway but Valens seems to be more attracted to her as he opens the door with a look of knowing he likes her. Usual CC music plays as we now see Jefferies interviewing Kiril stating that he’s forgotten where he took the girls.
Jefferies informs him he’s be looking at twenty years prison time as Kiril laughs before Vera sits on the table telling him it’s for trafficking reminding him of a witness.
