The episode opens with a song called” Speed of Sound” by the band Cold Play, as we see a family moving in they are the Jacobis. Adam Jacobi tries to lift a computer box as his wife asks if she could help as their daughter Kim tells him that it’s slipping, he assures them that he can lift it saying that it’s exercise. Her brother comes in shooting a laser gun as Kim asked her mother Emily why it’s war all the time. Emily responds telling her daughter that she’s getting him karate lessons, which Adam asks her how much. When she doesn’t know she tells him that his job starts tomorrow but he snaps a little bit.
However Emily asks if he’s going to get the rest of the boxes out of the care, Adam raises his voice telling her he needs just one second to get his things together. Kim then reaches him and pulls out some popcorn the ones you can pop over the stove, but looking over at her family remembering when they had a tornado back in Cincinnati and Emily made them all sleep in the basement, which her brother replies no. Kim continues this memory how they stayed up all night telling stories and eating popcorn. Adam replies yes as Emily reassures her children they will have an easier time, as Kim puts the popcorn over the stove.
Then it flashes to the family all have been shot except for Kim who is moving her head slightly, then two boxmen put their boxes away in the warehouse before it flashes to the present day. Various shots of Philadelphia are shown before we see Lilly Rush, Scotty Valens walking in with ADA Thomas in a hospital, while they talk about the Jacobi Family being murdered Lilly smiles but we presume it’s off screen or at one of the children , nevertheless the others turn along with her giving us the viewers speculation. After being informed that Kim had woken up and may have some info on the killers, both Lilly and Scotty enter the room.
Inside a man in a blue shirt identifies himself as “Ed” saying he’s been working with Kim for the last couple o weeks, before Lilly shakes his hand” Detective Rush, Valens unknowing her own later fate later on. For now we learn that Kim is doing better since she had come through a couple of week prior. As the camera gets a clear shot of Kim Jacobi for a moment it flashes back to the way she was before this, then flashes forward now showing a girl looking pretty sad with a headband in her hair.
From behind her there are pictures on the wall of her family, as Scotty comes over to her bedside as Lilly poses the question about what happened on that night. She doesn’t answer while Scotty picks up a photo off the nightstand asking if it was her father who did this to her, before handing it to Lilly. She smiles pointing the picture of Adam saying he loved her and her mother. Kim asks her how she knows that as Lilly sits down on the bed telling her she was see that. but she says she doesn’t remember that night.
When Scotty asks Kim the question about what she was doing that night, flashes of it start to come back as Kim looks scared almost wanting to cry. She looks around seeing more flashes of that night but the words don’t come out, the music is telling us something bad is happening. Lilly looks over at Ed as he looks worried for Kim.
Lilly questions her about her father seeing if there was a fight, as the flashes backs make Kim yell out that she doesn’t remember. Adam and Emily are lying on the floor as Kim yells please as the music grows intense signaling us that there is a tragic occurrence while the antagonist is loose and about the premises.
The music gets more vibrant as a gun is shown but the voice of the shooter is distorted saying always Romeo before a gunshot is heard. Lilly feels for her before Kim nods signaling she had seen her father’s body before she was shot. We know now that the father wasn’t the shooter as Ed tells the detectives that Kim should rest. Lilly apologies to Kim telling her she sorry of putting her through this, before getting up.
Now the opening music is about to start while we hear it impatiently drawing near, as Scotty follows Lilly out in the hallway telling each there was someone calling themselves Romeo leaving a witness behind. There Lilly is pulling out a sandwich out of a brown paper bag, while her mother Ellen Rush is lying on the couch. She tells her that she had a dream that Lilly was reading a book Ellen used to read to her as a kid but forgot the name. Ellen then sees what her daughter had brought back” Came back from work for that”.
Lilly looks up telling her she didn’t want to her grow hungry, with the pain nonstop. That’s when Ellen winces in pain coming from her abdomen as Lilly looks concerned asking her if she is alright before her mother tells her to go back before they wise up and fire her causing Lilly to crack that smile we all love. After asking that she got her cell , Ellen replies with a smile” Go get them Lilly” being motherly to her which was something different. As viewers we are left to see in fact how much she loves her daughter after knowing how hard Lilly’s life was a child but still are confused to make out what really is true or not true during this scene.
Walking away Lilly remembers the book : The Velveteen Rabbit before her mother informs her that Lilly made her read it a million times saying this with a smile, as both mother and daughter are reminding about a good time they shared together back then. Now Lilly goes on to tell us viewers a little tidbit about the storyline while sitting down in front of her mother.
While they both share a smile while discussing the book, Ellen softly replies” Could keep them away” as the music begins playing the background telling us she is dying. Her voice lowers a bit motioning for Lilly to go back to work. Getting up she says goodbye unknowing what will happen later on as her hands softly drags away from her mother, as another insight to show us how the bond between mother and daughter will later end.
By the time Lilly gets to the door , the piano is playing softly as Ellen says” Bye Baby” which makes our favorite detective turn around looking at her mother not realizing this is her last goodbye. Instead she leaves as the camera pans down to Ellen who is staring blankly, though still alive knowing she is slipping away. Kim states that she and Rick don’t talk online before Emily states she wants to meet him. The screen goes black before a camera clicks showing the negative before being colorized as if the picture is slowly developing. Rick is standing by a wall talking to his friends this is during passing time since the kids are flooded into the hallways overcrowding it.
The camera pans over seeing Kim looking a little unsecure possibly still adjusting to a new high school. Her binder is close to her giving the impression she doesn’t know anyone here, before stopping at her locker seeing a note with hearts near her name. Kim looks over at Rick hoping it was him, but coming over asking what it is. She is disappointed knowing now it wasn’t him that sent it. Now reading inside of the card, Kim reads it as the writing says how the person watched her for awhile knowing her unhappiness before Rick snatches it out of her hands.
He reads on as the note says the person has watched her outside her house, in school and is watching her right now. Rick looks over as the camera is now on the other side as if it was watching the two of them at her locker, he then looks at her quoting “ Stalker” hence the name of this episode before dropping it onto the floor. Kim picks it up before reading” Always Romeo” the same words the guy had said right before she was shot.
Rick turns around seeing the look of happiness on her face before the camera clicks on Rick’s face turning it back into a negative. Rush and Jefferies now realizing the online chats weren’t between the two but someone called Romeo as the music comes on sending us for another dozen commercials before returning. Camera then wheels over to headquarters with different music as a lap top and a regular monitor is displaying what appears to be chat logs as Kat begins telling how the tech until recovered but found the messages that the father , Adam was mad about.
Romeo’s user name was Montique01 which was the same last name as in the Shakespeare novel. They later discover that Romeo had this one sided love saying they were met to be together before a couple weeks later Kim sends a picture of herself with the high school label on her jacket is how Romeo got to her school with the note, until his words took a turn stating he would kill her family in order to take away her sadness so they could be together. As Miller, Vera and Stillman look at the messages they are trying to understand Romeo’s mindset. Now we find ourselves back at the hospital as Rush and Valens are talking to Kim again about the chats.
Scotty mentions Romeo watching her outside the bathroom crying, as Kim speaks it she sees a flashback of herself turning on the water. Kim tells Lilly she used to hide their seeing the steam on all the windows couldn’t remember but heard voices, wanting to disappear. Clearly this guy is looking into her thoughts stating he knows she wanted someone to call her but there was no one to, because he is watching her.
Getting up Kim looks out the window seeing a guy in the shadows very unrecognizable, Romeo tells her he understands her caring about her feelings. Upon asking how he is he tells her he is in love, before she draws a heart on the window before he tells her to draw an arrow through it. Then as she says something the camera shows that Romeo is now gone but sees the lights from laser tag in the dare before going back to Kim as the camera clicks.
Scotty hears around yellow laser lights possibly coming from Stewart (her brother)’s laser gun, and a neighbors kid. Then he notices a tall rose on the nightstand asking her who wrote a note that came along with it, Kim doesn’t but the camera shows it’s the heart with the arrow going through just like the one Kim had drawn during the flashbacks, the two detectives know its Romeo.
Camera pans up showing a gun being placed in the locker as both Rush and Vera are putting their guns away, she telling him that they put police detail on Kim around the clock but the camera is very interested in showing a shot of Lilly placing her gun down inside of her locker, before it closes before they both walk into the bullpen discussing the case. Vera has no luck tracing any records with the user name or phone records from the Jacobi household.
Stillman and Jefferies are interviewing the neighbor and his son. Jefferies asked the son about playing laser tag with steward, but he says on the night of his friend’s death he went over to play laser tag and saw someone in the house. A shot of a bridge before we see Kat texting someone as Scotty appears from behind the corner. Kim looks sad as she turns on the water in the tub before the camera captures the water before focusing on her who sits down at the edge hearing them fighting in the background. A phone rings as she picks up as the distorted voice comes on asking her about the rose, before telling her he’s sorry about her parents fighting. Clearly this guy is looking into her thoughts stating he knows she wanted someone to call her but there was no one to, because he is watching her.
Getting up Kim looks out the window seeing a guy in the shadows very unrecognizable, Romeo tells her he understands her caring about her feelings. Upon asking how he is he tells her he is in love, before she draws a heart on the window before he tells her to draw an arrow through it. Then as she says something the camera shows that Romeo is now gone but sees the lights from laser tag in the dare before going back to Kim as the camera clicks.
Scotty hears around yellow laser lights possibly coming from Stewart (her brother)’s laser gun, and a neighbors kid. Then he notices a tall rose on the nightstand asking her who wrote a note that came along with it, Kim doesn’t but the camera shows it’s the heart with the arrow going through just like the one Kim had drawn during the flashbacks, the two detectives know its Romeo.
Camera pans up showing a gun being placed in the locker as both Rush and Vera are putting their guns away, she telling him that they put police detail on Kim around the clock but the camera is very interested in showing a shot of Lilly placing her gun down inside of her locker, before it closes before they both walk into the bullpen discussing the case. Vera has no luck tracing any records with the user name or phone records from the Jacobi household.
Stillman and Jefferies are interviewing the neighbor and his son. Jefferies asked the son about playing laser tag with steward, but he says on the night of his friend’s death he went over to play laser tag and saw someone in the house. The negative frame shows up showing the friend as he chases steward around showing that the Jacobi family had just come in from being out. Emily states it getting late before Adam follows on the boys hearing classical music which was from Romeo and Juliet while hearing the clicking.
On the monitors it shows many pictures of Kim at different places the family is horrified when Adam yells at her Emily confesses telling her that she has been posing as her daughter as both her and husband are horrified by this until the camera clicks on the neighbor boy ending it. Stillman and Jefferies now know that Emily brought the stalker into her house.
A shot of a bridge before we see Kat texting someone as Scotty appears from behind the corner. He asks if she could track the pictures off the computer she says that Romeo is being a pain in ass, before Scotty tells her that Kim made a call to Rick the night of the shooting, before he asks if she had seen Lilly this morning. When the answer is no the camera pans to Scotty’s face as the music comes on flashing to Lilly’s neighborhood once again as a sound of someone knocking.
Inside we see Lilly sitting there holding her knees close to her looking sad, she is sitting on the couch. As Scotty opens the door slowly while seeing her head looking over towards him, before hearing him say the door was unlocked. Standing by the couch Lilly speaks softly telling Scotty that her mother died last night as we seeing how devastated Scotty is seeing how much he cares for his partner. She goes on the inform him about find her mother lying there so still.
There’s sadness in Lilly’s voice blaming herself that her mother had died alone, Scotty tries to be comforting telling her it wasn’t her fault. Placing a hand on her shoulder he tells her that he is there for her, but Lilly wants to be alone almost crying but doesn’t. We can tell she is mourning over not saying goodbye and losing her mother. When Scotty gets up he turns and says something important that will come up later” Need anything, just say Hey and I’ll be there” in which Lilly nods before he closes the doors as Lilly tries to comfort herself as the music raps on signaling a change of scene.
In the interrogation with Jefferies and Vera are interviewing Rick the friend with Benefits as he Denys calling her but said Kim called him saying how miserable she was as he goes over there, knowing she was crying and he wanted to make sure she was okay. During the flashback Adam is getting rid of the computers as Emily tries to apologize. She states she went on the site trying to connect with some old friends but. The real reason behind this is because Emily doesn’t want to be these people have a husband that doesn’t think she’s appealing to her and all the pictures were of her like this, Emily tells Kim she used to look like her.
Then Rick looks over seeing Kim taking out a gun out of a filing cabinet, before the camera clicks. Rick states that Kim tried to talk to him how she felt but he just made things worse but said he could have helped her. Music plays as we see the unknown street at night before seeing Rush sitting at a computer looking pretty sad, Stillman appears saying how sorry he was. Lilly responds telling him she needs to be here as he places a hand on her shoulder. Her face is one that displays someone that has never been comforted and feels uncomfortable but releasing a breath possibly telling him leaves her alone.
Looking up Kim enter with Ed as he rolls in a folded up wheelchair. Lilly walks with Kim asking if she ever read the book “Romeo and Juliet” saying what crazy kids they were. Then Rush confronts her about Rick seeing her with a gun as Kim looks shocked saying she would never hurt her family as Lilly says they didn’t love her or want to. Kim’s voice gets louder as she starts remembering flashback we see on the screen. Then a flashback on her says she wanted to hurt herself.
