Harvey Native Paris Barclay Donated His Childhood Home To Habitat For Humanity
(CBS) HARVEY Award-winning “Cold Case” director Paris Barclay went from Harvey to Hollywood, and now he is giving back to his south suburban hometown.
As CBS 2’s Holly Gregory reports, Barclay donated his childhood home, at 15726 Vine St. in Harvey, to Habitat for Humanity. On Saturday, he met the family he is helping.
Standing in his old bedroom, the memories come rushing back to Barclay.
“There was always three to four brothers in this small space, which right now is about the size of my closet in Hollywood,” Barclay said.
As the Emmy Award-winning director of “Cold Case,” Barclay has come a long way from his childhood home. But in returning to Harvey, Barclay donated the home to single mother Nacole Tate and her two daughters.
They have helped renovate the house and will move in next month.
“You can’t help but appreciate it, and just be overjoyed and feel blessed and love the person who even made this happen,” Tate said.
Her daughter, Kelly Gills, added: “I think that they're really loving and nice to give us a house; to donate us something so that they had so many memories in. We walked through every room and I had questions -- who was in this room and who was in that room. I'm really excited and I'm really thankful for them.”
When asked how she felt, daughter Jada Thompson replied, “happy.”
Barclay credits his success to the dedication of his parents. They raised all seven of their children in the house on factory work wages.
He hopes the happy memories he has of Harvey will continue for the young family now moving in. They will now have a chance to make the house into a home.
"I just have a really good feeling that its going to be a great start for them," Barclay said, "and all of my prayers are going to be with them that they have as much good fortune as we had in Harvey."
Barclay’s mother moved out of the house 11 years ago. Since then, it has been empty.
