Kathryn is quite the comedian. She worked David and he didn't even realize it. It was hilarious.
She was a real jokester in this interview with a dry sense of humor that catches David…..Very entertaining!
He started out asking where she was from and what she does. She said she was still trying to figure it out herself. She said she grew up all over but especially between Texas and Connecticut but her family moved around a bit. There was laughter during this. David said ‘when she grew up all over he thought she sure did” *lol* I don’t think KM got it because she was still commenting on not figuring out what to do with her life comment...so it seemed to me.
She talked about her family traveling around in a Volkswagen bus singing. The Morris Code -they sang gospel music and wore 70’s clothing. She enjoyed it but said they were like the Jackson Five minus Michael. And then she said she was the least talented in the family and compared herself to Latoya. (she paused and laughed) *I laughed here because I think she was kind of joking around. I think Latoya does have talent.* The audience laughed but I’m not sure if they were laughing at her comparing her family to the Jackson’s or what. It was cute. Then she said since she doesn’t sing gospel anymore then that would make her similar to Janet. *I don’t think Kathryn considers herself a great singer from what I’ve read. So she had to be ribbing David here*.
She then said that she realized once she got to Connecticut that she should go to straight acting. At 21 she decided to give acting a go and got on a Greyhound and spent the night at the Port Authority in NYC. She said she bought coffee for all the ones that looked shady. David said he didn’t think that sounded like acting to him! *lots of laughter from audience* Kathryn was all smiles and said those were her day jobs.
He brought up the Jerry Maguire part with Tom Cruise. She said that part didn’t go as planned because she had been up all night for a night shoot for a film that wrapped around 6 am that morning and her audition wasn’t until 9 am so she went home to review her material and take a shower and be ready to go. (Ah here’s comes the connection to why Lilly might have two cats in the show Cold Case) She said she went home and had just adopted two kittens two days before and got home and one of them was dead and the other kitten was freaking out. So she talked about calling the vet who told her to put the cat in the freezer because they needed to do an autopsy on it because the other cat may get sick. Kathryn said she put the cat in the freezer (audience laughs) and Kathryn continues that she wanted to make it to the audition. Then her phone rang saying the film they just shot the night before was ruined and she needed to go back. So Kathryn packs up her car with her dead kitten in a cookie tin and took the live cat and parked in the shade went and did her Jerry MaGuire audtion which she said was fabulous. Then she stopped end of story. David fumbled for words because she had such an abrupt story that just ended. David didn’t know what to say excect a half hearted ’wow” *Everyone laughed in the audience* Kathryn was smiling away, laughing with the audience. Then he asked how long it took to defrost a cat. Kathryn said the audition was about 45 minutes as she read the role a few times. It was for Renee Zwelliger’s (sp) role.
Then she said when she started the ignition there was a slight meowing that wasn’t’ coming from her (live) cat so she thought maybe there was a second chance there for the dead cat. *at least that’s what I thought* David couldn’t follow her…. I think she was playing around with him the whole interview. The audience was laughing and then David said. You know what that cat was? A Cold Case! They both agreed.
David asked her how things were on Cold Case. Kathryn says Cold Case is happening and that everyone is watching. They’re busy only having four days to do a show. She says she has a great group to work with and then she asked him if he watched to which he stumbled. *funny* *he obviously doesn’t and she laughed out at the audience and so did the audience* He said it was all TiVo’d & he watches them at the end of the year. {more laughter} Then he said he watched and that it was a wonderful show and so was she *to which no one even Kathryn believed and roared* Then David said he had to be in bed early Sunday nights.
Then Kathryn said it was nice to be there and she talked about how it was nice to be dressed up and David had a wardrobe of that as a Cold Case detective. David asked if he was being insulted. Kathryn said no. Then she said there was no one but David who could work a double breasted suit.
