I asked this question sometime in the middle of season 2 and it seemed that most of you wanted to wait until season 2 had ended, so now that we're entering a summer of repeats, I thought I'd ask this.
I said it was better because I felt that we got to see more of the characters and how the cases affected them. I loved the personal stories but also there were some amazing episodes like Mind Hunters and The Woods.

Hey CCFan,
Good evening to you, I hope you (and everyone else) are doing well tonight. I had to vote "I don't know" on this one. Only because I missed most of season one. Season two was awesome (although truthfully, I have not seen all of that either), but I have no way of accurately comparing it to season one.
I watched a season one episode I have tonight, "Disco Inferno." Man, so much good music! :-) I hope that CBS starts showing repeats of season one soon, so I can finally catch up! Sorry, this was not a very productive analysis, but this thread caught my eye, and I thought I would put in my two cents worth.
Thanks, CCFan, and have a great night, girl! :-)

I voted that season two was better. I thought that the show took more risks this season (Elisa's suicide, entire episodes with only one artist's music, a campy episode in true Rocky Horror style, Christina, etc), and they really paid off. The show proved that it didn't want to just rest of the foundation it built during season one. It developed, and also developed the characters along with it. There were some deeply emotional episodes (Best Friends, The Sleepover, Strange Fruit) and some blow-you-away episodes (Mindhunter, The Woods). Overall an excellent season, and I didn't think that season one could be topped.

I'm not sure. My initial impression of S2 was that it was discobulated. Tearing Lily out as the main role even tho I didn't feel she had much screen time except for Sherry Darlin or The Woods. both seasons. Starting off s2 with a poor episode like Badlands, IMO, wasn't a good start as well as advertising the wrong ep by CBS. They should have led off with the Sleepover.
I can remember watching Blank Generation and the Scotty storyline realizing that Scotty being so out of place last season was possibly a reason to give him something in season 2. I wasn't too receptive to that because I'm a fan of the woman they advertised this show to be about in Season 1. So unless they had more feedback to include other detectives-I wasn't too happy with longer themes of certain characters. But I think what they are trying to do is make it an ensemble show now and let's face it we all have our favorites. Mine being Lilly and Vera. Anyhow it still is a Lilly show in miy mind and should be portrayed as that. Of course I'm only one fan with an opinion.
Watching the reruns I go back and read what I wrote for that episode in the Episode forum and I'm not finding much difference in what I liked then and now. Which goes to prove to me that first impressions are pretty accurate. I do like having two episodes like Mindhunter and the Woods and I liked they went camp on Creatures of the Night. It would have been even better had they aired that one on Halloween since Rocky Horror tends to rerun around that time each season.
Of the five Best Episodes I chose to nominate for S2 in the Awards area all five are great cases with two being heavy leaning on Lilly.
What will season 3 bring? I have no idea. But I put my wish list up on that thread for some things I'd like to see. So it will be interesting to see what we get.

I voted no. Even though I think TV Fan made great points about season 2, I still liked season 1 better. First, because like Naj I'm a big Lilly fan, and (I think I've said this somewhere else already) the main reason why I started watching CC and why I keep watching is Lilly. I enjoy learning about the other detectives but I could live without their storylines. But, also because I felt that season 1 had much more stronger episodes than season 2. In season 1 we had episodes like Fly Away, Sherry Darling, Glued, Boy in the Box... season 2 didn't bring episodes that made very impacts on me (with the exception of Mindhunters/The Woods, of course). That obviously doesn't mean that I think the quality of the show decreased. I think they dealt very well with all the storylines. It's just that I felt a bit "betrayed" since the show was IMO originally advertised as based on Lilly's discovery of her "calling" to solve cold cases. That said I'd like to stress that even though I haven't seen all season 2 (last episode here was Strange Fruit), I'm pretty sure my opinion is not going to change. And - I certainly don't like Cold Case any less - it's certainly my favorite show and it'll probably remain like that for many years.

For the record, I totally agree with you Naj and Tati regarding Lilly's decreased role this season. That was the one low point for me. Like you said Tati, it doesn't make me like the show any less, but I would like to see more episodes that center around out favorite female detective. I even included this in my wish list for next season. We need more Lilly interrogations - I really miss the classics like Lilly and Henry in "Hitchhiker." Great stuff! :smile4:

I'd really like to take a stand, but I feel I can't... having missed most of season 1 the first time around and watching the episodes out of order the way I did. There's very little of it left in my mind. I followed season 2 much more closely, and of course I had you all to discuss it with, so in that sense I enjoyed it much more. Think I'd have to watch season 1 again to give a definite statement. :smile48:
I do agree that Lilly had less screen time this season--but I don't think it takes away from her character.

It's funny you singled out Lilly's interrogations. That interrogation of Sherry in Sherry Darlin' was a great one. If ya'll have it taped go back and take a look and listen to classic Lilly. I miss that! ~Naj :smile43:

I voted that they are about the same, because I really can't decide. I think each season had it's high and low points.
I agree with everyone who says that they like how season 2 brings out the personal lives of the detectives and how the cases affected them, and I agree with the statments on how season 2 had a disappointing lack of Lilly time.
I almost prefer season 1, though, because I thought that alot of the episdoes of Season 2 were weak. Also, I was disappointed in the music in a vast majority of episodes (the music is one of the reasons I watch the show, so I pay close attention to that every time). I disagree with the majority of the posters here in that I do not like when an episode has only one artists' music (save for the Rocky Horror ep, when that was appropriate). Also, alot of the closing montages had very strange or overly upbeat songs, and I didn't really like that so much.
So, to sum it up: Season 1 had stronger episodes case-wise, but Season 2 had stronger episodes character growth-wise.
