Good evening all, Hello, it's the Byrdman just getting in touch tonight I hope that everyone is doing well, and that the weekend is rocking and rolling for everyone as well! Hey, I was finishing up a TNT ep of Cold Case, and I noticed something in the ending credits. First of all, they don't show those on CBS the same way, but I noticed there is a statement near the end that says: "The title 'Cold Case' is used under exclusive license from A&E Television Network." Now, I know A&E makes a show called "Cold Case Files", do you think they control anything that can be released as far as products go? It's that exclusive license that caught my eye. Plus, I might be completely off with this too. Just something I thought about after I saw it tonight, and thought I would toss it out there. Take care, and have a rocking night, everyone!

If I remember correctly, when CC first came about, they struck an agreement with A&E's Cold Case Files because the names are so similar. In the agreement, CC had to promote CCF at the end of every episode, and they used to in season 1. Nice observation byrdman.
Regarding the licensing of products, I have a feeling this has to do with the contract between Warner Bros (who produces and distributes the show) and CBS (who airs the show). These contracts can be very sticky. I was reading in an article how CBS is having problems licensing episodes of its shows for download on services such as iTunes (they did strike an agreement with Google) because the production houses that actually own these shows (like Warner Bros. for CC) want too much of the profit from the downloads. I wouldn't be surprised if the same were true for merchandise. CSI has an easier road because (I'm about 99% positive) it is owned my a CBS subsidiary.

I know at the end of every episode in season 1 they had the A&E show referenced. With the continaul references to Canada's Cold Squad I thought maybe that's why they had the A&E reference. *Not knowing anything about why they did this*

Thanks for the info TVFan I didn't know any of that. Its a tricky situation it seems and yet again the show and its fans suffer due to some already rich company just wanting to be richer!!

Dear TVFan, Hey, girl! So good to hear from you here, and thank you so much for delving into and explaining this matter for me. And for your kind thoughts too. Thanks, girl! But yes, this sounds like a very complicated situation for sure. I wonder if we will ever see any officially licensed CC merchandise, or if we fans will have to muddle through on our own here. We can do it, I'm sure! Rock on, Cold Case! Thanks, TVFan. Take care, and have a great day, girl!

It would be nice to have the DVDs. I hope they release them soon. By the way, anyone notice Without a Trace hasn't released Seasons 2 and 3.

I hadn't noticed R2K, but isn't that show also Warner Bros? I ask because Warner Bros. is real picky about releasing subsequent seasons if the first season does not sell well. This is what's going on with Everwood's second season DVDs. I don't know how well WaT's first season set sold, but this could be the cause for the hold up on seasons 2 and 3.
