From today's (9/13) "Ask Matt" column on TVGuide.com: Question: After a dismal summer of television viewing and a nearly empty TiVo, I was driving past City Hall here in Philadelphia and saw a crew filming a scene for Cold Case. It immediately lifted my spirits as I am an avid fan of the show. Could you tell me when the first episode of Cold Case is to air this season? And one other question: Is it true that William Petersen of CSI is leaving the show once his contract is up? Can the show survive without him? — David J. Matt: Actually, that was two other questions. To answer them first: I don't know. And yes, it can. CSI, like Law & Order, can probably withstand significant cast overhauls without reducing the show's appeal — depending, of course, on who they recast with. Don't get me wrong. Losing Grissom would hurt. And given how quickly they're developing CSI spin-offs, maybe CBS would just rather start a new series than recast the old one. Who knows? As for Cold Case, it returns Oct. 3, and I can't wait. Like Without a Trace, it has taken the procedural crime drama to a new level. And that show could not survive losing its marquee star.Ask Matt[/b][/url]

It's nice to know that at least one critic actually appreciates the importance of Lilly and Kathryn to the show. I agree, no Lilly/Kathryn = no show.
