In this moment is diffused in France an English series Murder in Suburbia (ASH and Scribbs). Sonny can you say to me if you know, why these two women police officers pursue the criminals without revolver, but with simple bludgeons . Certain police officers in England are not armed? It's very strange A good series, often very funny.

Gah, how ignorant am I for not noticing this!! Thanks Eurache for PM'ing me about it. And sorry frenchfan for taking so long to respond. Okay. Murder in Sububia isn't a show that I watch but I think I may be able to help about the bludgeons or truncheons as they are properly called here. In England Police very rarely carry guns, they have truncheons instead. However as the crime rate grows and more criminals on the streets carry guns the police are beginning to carry them more. The reason why they all don't have them is mainly due to public opinion in England that we don't want the police to carry guns. I hope that helps frenchfan.

Thanks for the answer, Sonny . No problem for the delay the reason why they all don't have them is mainly due to public opinion in England that we don't want the police to carry guns. I had heard that , but I believed that prohibition to carry guns concerned only the police officers in uniform. Not also inspectors of the criminal. I can understand the position of the English public opinion but nevertheless ... PS : Thanks EURACHE

I know what you mean by the nevertheless but I think the general concensus is that if the police carry guns then criminals are more likely to use guns on the police causing more fatalities. At the moment it is rare to hear in the news of police getting shot. I would imagine that as gun crime in the UK rises all police will eventually carry a weapon.

I understand this point of view even if I don't divide it entirely(moreover in France the question arises also on this subject with the municipal police force). But actually I was very surprised by seeing this show, the risks which took the inspector by stopping the criminal with a simple bludgeon. But ultimately perhaps that this choice is the good, in any case in England (and if the police force agrees not to be armed, then). P.S : sorry my English does not improve, it's besides enough frustant for me, I cannot really express my ideas.
