Well done! I'm sure the shooting has to have had a pretty big impact on Scotty as well, and the only thing the show did was that whole stupid IAB investigation which was a plot contrivance designed to get him into the ADA's pants.

Anyway, I'm very concerned for Scotty, but I'm glad Lil was there to help him. He's always about saving other people, but I think he might be the one in need of it most. I love how strong Lilly is in your story.

While Scotty had his head against her chest, he could hear the soft beats of her heart. Then flashes of the shooting came to mind; causing him to cry even more. Lilly ran her fingers through his hair not knowing what do say. For awhile the two detectives didn’t speak just took in each other’s comforts.

A little while later, Lilly noticed just how still he had become” You okay”.

“I hear your heartbeat Lil” was his response. Now lifting up his head, Scotty gently stroked her cheek before placing his hand on her chest. He felt the scar, as tears began to flow even more.

“Look you saved me, Scotty”

“No I should have stopped it earlier” he said before pushing his head underwater again. Lilly’s eyes watered, as she felt him taking in a breath, while trying to pull him out.
Scotty was coughing as she spoke on the verge of tears “Please don’t “

There was just a pretty sad song on the radio.. and in combination with this it makes me feel down..
You have the ability to write very good, it really makes me feel I'm right into it.

Scotty then turned back as Lilly held onto him for a long time. It had felt like hours before the two broke their embrace and peered into each other’s eyes. Without a single word, she then wrapped him in a blanket like he had done for her. Back on the bed, the lay by each other’s side wanting to comfort each other.

Just a week after that, Lilly stopped by his apartment as Scotty answered.

“Hey you going to work”?

She smiled” Just missed you”.

He knew that Lilly had taught him things about being a good cop, but valued their friendship. Moving closer the two took each other’s hand knowing that they had been there for each other. After Lilly had left, Scotty pushed his face into the cold water in an effort to try and ward off the pain. His last thoughts were of Lilly before everything went black.

It didn’t take that long for Lilly to realize that she had left her badge in his apartment. After running upstairs she opened the door before seeing his shirt on the floor. Rushing in her heart almost stopped as Lilly pulled him out of the tub.

He didn’t have a pulse as she began to perform CPR on him. Somehow Lilly grew scared before calling for back up.

“Stay with me Scotty” her voice whispered.


When the paramedics arrived, Lilly stood there watching the shocking his chest. Sure enough his heart began to beat, as she followed them out to the ambulance. Now waiting outside, Lilly sat there holding his badge in her hands, hoping Scotty would live.

As Lilly sat by his bedside, her formed in her eyes knowing that she could have lost Scotty. Now he lay there attached to a heart monitor and breathing tube. She hated seeing the person who protected her everyday like this. When Stillman peeked his head into the room, he noticed that Lilly was sound asleep in the chair next to the bed.

“ Lil” he voice was quiet before watching Lilly’s eyes flutter open” Um, Boss what time is it”?
Stillman moved closer” Late, why don’t you go home”?
“ No I need to be with him” Lilly whispered before glancing over at Scotty.

He sighed but lead her out of the room, there Lilly looked downright tired. In fact she sat in the waiting room quietly. Everyone proceeded to follow her just in case she needed comfort also. By morning, Lilly was back in the room after not sleeping all night.

Scotty’s eyes were open as she stroked his cheek” Hey”.

He didn’t respond, but Lilly was glad that he was still alive. In fact she didn’t would what to do if she had lost him. Now peered down at her wrists that were already healed, Lilly knew she had recovered but now had to help him through this also.

Two days later, Scotty was breathing without the oxygen tube but was speaking.

“ Why did you do this”

He breathed out” I know that you are dead”.

Lilly looked into his eyes” Scotty, I’m not” before he looked away.
For awhile silence took over the room, as tears began to flood in her eyes. Lilly was scared for him; knowing that he too had suffered after her shooting.

When Scotty was able to walk, the two of them headed out into the hallway. Lilly had to find some way to convince him that she was alive. She knew after her own shooting that it took awhile for to her to realize that also. Almost seeing the light was something that had scared Lilly especially during the nightmares too.

Now headed back into the room, Scotty sat down on the bed. Dizziness once again took over him; as he lay down.

“I saw you die” he said

Lilly let out a breath before watching him lean over, and placing his head on her chest. After that he heard the sound of her heart beat; as Scotty listened to that sound. Looking up, tears fell from his eyes knowing that in fact she was alive. Dizziness again made him lie back, but Scotty pulled her closer before capturing Lilly’s lips.

The two then pulled apart knowing that they didn’t want to ruin their friendship. Not long after that brief kiss, thoughts of suicide began to swarm around in his mind. Grabbing a plastic bag nearby, Lilly stopped him.

“No, don’t do this “.

“I want to know how Elisa felt before she died” he said.

Lilly took his hand” You can’t not after how you saved me”.

Scotty then pushed her onto the ground as two nurses began to strap him to the bed. He thrashed around before getting sedated. Lilly breathed out but wanted to remain by his side, knowing that they both had some demons that needed to be faced.

When he awoke, Scotty felt calmer but remained in straps until he wasn’t harm to himself.

“Why the hell am I strapped in”?

Lilly looked down at him” You pushed me onto the floor, in an effort to kill yourself”.

“Get me out of here Lil”.

“No Scotty, I can’t”.

Scotty tried to move but couldn’t” Why the hell did you have to go in that room with Ed”.
Lilly was taken aback but wasn’t about to let him get to her emotionally” You know why so don’t act stupid”.

He spit at her, before she turned and left the room. Inside Lilly didn’t know what to think but knew that it wasn’t Scotty talking. Besides he would never treat her the way that he had just had done. At home, she sat there knowing that the shooting had changed everything.

Scotty knew that he was wrong, especially about pushing Lilly to the floor. Then he remembered their brief kiss knowing just how much love he had for her. Breathing out, Scotty was going to do his best to try and move past the shooting.

Meanwhile, Lilly was in the middle of doing some mediation. As she took a long deep breath, she could hear the sound of her own heart beating. Maybe that sound had to do with a lot of thing; but it symbolized life, friendship and trust that the two had with each other. Lilly did in fact have trust in him, something that she kept so closely guarded inside for so long.

Opening up her eyes, Lilly drew in a steady breath before getting up. If her best friend was going to get better, she was only one that could possibly help him. Glancing over it was too late to visit, before letting the water fill up in the tub. Upon getting in, Lilly closed her eyes and tried to keep herself relaxed. It was hard though; but work wasn’t going to be on her own mind tonight.

By the next morning, as Lilly poured some coffee into her blue cup she noticed her partners. It hurt not to see his face; especially now. Sighing softly, she went back to her desk and sat down quietly. Then in one motion, Lilly went immediately down to the hospital forgetting about a case; which then again wasn’t like her to do so.

At the hospital, she caught the attention of his doctor.

“How’s Scotty doing” showing him her badge.
“Seems calmer, as of right now we don’t have him on anything.
He remains strapped just in case”.

Letting out a deep breath, Lilly walked into the room “Hey”.

Scotty’s smiled warmed” Missed you so much Lil”.

“Me too, how you feeling” she asked

“I’m sorry Lil’ he said as Lilly stroked his cheek” You’re going to get better okay”.

The two then shared a smile, before a nurse came in to check his vital signs. Scotty felt calmer with Lilly at his side. She was his one and only person that he loved, but couldn’t take a chance of ruining their friendship. Besides that was thing that there two could ever hold onto.

When the nurse had exited, Scotty drank some water through a straw. Placing the bottle down, Lilly peered into his eyes as he spoke” You taught me so much about being a good cop and person”.

She smiled but continued to listen to him” I’m never going to stop protecting you ever”.

Taking his hand, the two silently kept their promise to each other.

“We both want to get married, have families; it’s not just you that feels like that Lil”.

Lilly understood but knew her future could in fact chance; but she had to make that attempt. So her life was devoted to work, but maybe just maybe there was someone out there. Keeping that thought in mind, she still needed to find her own slice of happiness for herself.

It was good to have Scotty as a friend, especially during these times.

“Maybe you’ll be released soon”.

He sighed” Have to see a shrink because I’m a nut job”.

She laughed” A nut job really, is that whom I’m rolling with” remembering how he had teased her during a case not too long ago. In fact Scotty did remember that as he too laughed about it” We’re a bunch of lonely nuts Lil”.

For awhile it was silent until he peered into her blue eyes” That scruffy guy ride back on his Harley”.

“No, you’re right Scotty about Ray. He was my first love but now is a criminal”.

Scotty nodded” You don’t need that, not after how your childhood was”.

Lilly was glad he knew about her past but didn’t see her as damaged freak. Instead he treated her with more respect that a lot of people had. Maybe people were out to hurt her as she had thought; just maybe the walls could start to come down.

Feeling strong, Lilly and Scotty were going to help each other. They needed to especially during upcoming counseling session.


There will be a few more chapters, I'm trying to either go with a romantic ending or a friendship one.

As the two detectives sat there holding each other’s hand, Lilly was nervous about letting her inner emotions out. She had always kept them bottled up safe behind a steel thick wall; but now it was starting to crumble. Beside her, Scotty had similar feelings about talking. He knew that it was the only way for him to come back to work.

The door the creaked open sending chills throughout both of their spines. A man then entered and sat down facing the two of them.

“You still feeling suicidal” he asked looking in Scotty’s direction.
Drawing in a deep breath” No”
The man raised his eyebrows” Not even after you saved your partner and the death of your girlfriend several years ago”.
Scotty shifted uncontrollably in his seat, while Lilly gently squeezed his hand. He couldn’t dare speak about losing Elisa but almost losing the woman he worked with everyday was another story.
“I was outside the building, knowing that the suspect was out of control. When I got inside and saw my boss shot” he gasped not wanting to relive that night. “Lil then called needing me; by the time I had shot the guy she had been also shot”.

The social worker could see hurt in his eyes” How did you feel Scotty, when Lilly was shot”?
“Upset, scared. I didn’t want to see the person I care about die” before glancing over at her. “I tried to move on knowing that Lilly was fine but could tell that she wasn’t”.

Dr. West then noticed the scars present on the blonde’s arm” What made you do this Lilly”?
“Don’t tell them” a voice whispered inside but Lilly wanted to. In fact she knew it was the only way for her to stop feeling so gloomy and dark inside

. As she began to tell, Scotty kept her hand in his for support knowing that they both had skeletons in their closets. In the middle of it, Dr. West interrupted” Look of what you had done Lilly, how you managed to get out make something of yourself. From what I hear you are an excellent cop”.

Scotty then interjected” Think about the victims how you brought closure to them” remembering how determined she had been when they had first met. For that he was grateful to come to homicide” You mean a lot to me”.

“So do you” she whispered though her tears. After the session was over, Lilly took him back to his apartment. Almost immediately, Scotty went right to sleep as she sat on his couch wide awake. The doctors wanted her to keep an eye on him, after what had happened.

Throughout the entire night, Scotty remained fast asleep as Lilly stood in the doorway. In her heart, their friendship had meant everything to her.
