I got a little impatient with this one. Not one of my best, but some parts stand out as good.
You Can Dance Brad Zann was the hottest DJ at Totally Tech Dance Club in 1985. His future was limitless until he was electrocuted right there on the dance floor. Strangely, nobody else was hurt. This leaves a close friend to ask Rush and Valens to reopen the case. Suspects include the club owner, a crazy stalker, a vixen, and a jealous rival. Meanwhile, the team learns some tragic news.
July 28, 1985 “Into the Groove” by Madonna plays in the background at a dance club called “Totally Tech”. The dance floor is filled with young people. ‘80s styles are in full force as the song plays. A DJ is overlooking the dance floor. He is medium height with light brown hair. A young confused girl with big blond hair is watching him. She looks unhappy and has a crazy look on her face. On the other end of the dance floor a beautiful woman with brown hair is dancing with a guy but has her eye on the DJ. A young taller guy with blonde hair is standing at the entrance watching the DJ with an angry look on his face. Meanwhile, another girl with reddish hair is dancing with some friends. She looks at the DJ and smiles. The owner is at the door collecting money from people entering. He is older with black hair that is going gray. The DJ is working the equipment when suddenly something shorts and he starts to shake. The music stops and the dancers watch in horror as the DJ is electrocuted. The camera is on the audience and doesn’t show the death. Everyone leaves the dance area as the boss gets them all out. The nervous blond starts to scream. The girl who smiled looks shocked as she is pushed out by employees.
In the case file room, the box is put away.
Zann, B. July ‘85
-In the present, Lily is sitting at her desk with a man. He has blond hair and looks about 41. His name is Cameron Dell. Cameron: Brian was a great guy. Girls loved him. Lily: He was a DJ. Cameron: Got a good paying gig at Totally Tech. Lily: I remember that club. Scotty: Personally? Lily: I snuck in a few times. Cameron: Brian had the personality. Pete Gregg hired him to be the top DJ. Brian got the weekends and whatever else he wanted. Lily: So what happened? Cameron: He was electrocuted one night. In front of everyone. Lily: Were you there that night? Cameron: No. Probably a good thing I wasn’t. I don’t think I would have been able to handle it. Scotty: Was it ruled murder? Cameron: Faulty equipment. One of the wires was frayed. He must have grabbed it and completed a circuit. Scotty: Looks more like an accident. Cameron: That’s how Pete saw it. Detectives too. Closed the case immediately. Dance club went on business as usual. Lily: So what brings you in here now? Cameron: Being a DJ was everything to Brian. He took care of that equipment. I knew him. I think someone made sure he died there that night. Scotty: You have a suspect? Cameron: No. I had my own job. Didn’t get a chance to go there much. But I remember there being a note on his desk when I was at his house a few nights before he died.
-Flashback to 1985 “We Built This City” by Starship plays in the background. In Brian’s bedroom at home, he and Cameron are hanging out. Brian: You need to come by more often. Cameron: I wish I could man. I gotta work and study. Brian: Why study? Cameron: I want to get a good job when I graduate. Brian: I’m not in college and I already have a good job. Cameron: But that’s you. I want to be doctor. Got to go to school for that. Brian: You sure you want to do that? Cameron: Yeah. I’m sure. Brian: At least come by Friday. Cameron: I’ll try. (Notices a note on the desk) What’s this? Brian: Nothing. -Cameron reads it out loud. Cameron: “I will kill you, you sleazy son of a ….” Whoa. What did you do? Brian: Nothing. Just someone who wants me and won’t take a hint. -Brian takes the note away from him.
-Return to the present.
Lily: He ever tell you who wrote it? Cameron: No. Scotty: Did you make it to the club that Friday? Cameron: No. And he died that night. Lily: What was your job? In ’85? Cameron: Lifeguard. Plus I was a student. Summer school but still, I needed to study. Dance clubs weren’t my thing. I was the college student. Brian was the guy living his dream. Lily: That turned into a nightmare.

-In the case file room, Lily and Scotty have located the box. Lily: Brian Zann, age 20, electrocuted. Whole group of dancers watched as he died. Scotty: That couldn’t have been pretty. Lily: I was at this club in the late ‘80s. I heard stories about this incident. Scotty: I never heard of it. Lily: I don’t know. All we got is a note and without a good suspect… Scotty: I’m sure we’ll find someone. -Vera enters. Vera: Remember Lil. You’re a handwriting expert. Lily: I just worked questioned documents. I can compare handwriting. Never analyzed. Vera: Board certified. (Grins) Lily: Anything on Brian’s family? Vera: Still alive. Living in the same place. Tom and Grace Zann. There was a younger brother, Jeff. He was 11 at the time. Lily: That would make him 32 now. Scotty: Want to go to the parents? Lily: They’re all we have right now. Vera: Jeffries is working on the owner right now. Trying to locate him. Totally Tech closed down at the close of the ‘80s. Kat and I will look through his statement and talk to him when we know his whereabouts. Lily: Sure. We’ll meet back here later.
-At the Zann house. Grace: Brian loved music. Tried to play an instrument. Just never happened. Tom: That’s when he learned he could play music recorded by others. Grade: He had a great personality. People liked him. He wanted to be a DJ when he was 13. Tom: Yeah. (Get’s up to go to the kitchen.) Grace: I’m sorry. Being a DJ wasn’t exactly what Tom had in mind. Lily: We talked to Cameron, his friend. Grace: I remember Cameron. The two were best friends since, well before school. But Cameron was going the college route. We told Brian to go to college too. But he was insistent on being a DJ. Lily: Were there any arguments between Brian and his father? Grace: Heavens no. Tom didn’t exactly like the idea. But in time, at least Brian was making some decent money. If it fell through, he’d have enough to go school. Plus we saved up for college for him. He had a back up plan. It would have different if he were wasting his life. Scotty: Can you think of anybody who might have wanted him dead? Grace: I can’t think of anybody. We didn’t really know the club scene to well. Lily: Cameron spoke of a note he saw when he was here. This was a few days before he died. Grace: I never knew of a note. Lily: The note said, “I will kill you, you sleazy son of a, well you know the rest.” Grace: You know a girl called the house nonstop right before he died. But I can’t remember much about her. She didn’t give a name. -Tom reenters. Tom: Brian did have an enemy. Scotty: What? Tom: He mentioned someone at the club. The name is coming to me. Wait. Matt Kemp. Another DJ. Lily: How do you remember this? Tom: Cause I saw a fight go down between them at the club one night.
-FLASHBACK TO 1985 “People are People” by Depeche Mode plays in the background. Brian is DJing that night as his father enters the dance floor. He sees Brian and Matt arguing. Matt: You have most of the nights, why do you need any more? Brian: Boss asked me. Can’t say no. Matt: Man I hate you. You take all the good nights. Brian: Boss gives me all the good nights. Matt: No you take them. You can say no sometimes. Brian: Maybe I’m better than you. Matt: I am better than you. I was doing great before you showed up and took it all away from me. Brian: I’m sorry if people like me better. Matt: They liked me before you came along. They’ll like me again. Brian: What’s that supposed to mean? Matt: Nothing. Just that they’ll like me again. You just wait and see.
-Tom is still at the entrance as he watches Matt walk away from Brian. Matt gives a dirty look.
RETURN TO THE PRESENT.
Tom: Matt Kemp used to be the big DJ there. Grace: When Brian started, he had one night. Within a month, he had any night he wanted. Matt was jealous I guess. Lily: You think this guy might have killed him? Tom: I don’t know. Death was ruled accidental. Scotty: What happened to his equipment? Tom: Forensics looked at it. We didn’t want it after that. Grace: It was destroyed that night anyway. All these years I never imagined Brian could have been murdered. It just made sense for it to be an accident. Lily: What about his things? Do you still have them? Grace: Yes, I do. We kept everything the same.
-In Brian’s room. Grace leads Lily and Scotty in. Grace: Nothing has been moved. Lily: Any idea what’s in the drawers? Grace: I don’t know. I never looked. I peak in here once in a while. But I never interfere. I like to think he’s still here. I’ll leave you too alone. -Grace walks out of the room. Lily: Wow. All the cases we’ve done. We’re never gonna get a break like this twice. -Scotty opens a desk drawer. Scotty: Found the note. Lily: Really. What’s it say? Scotty: “I’ll kill you, you sleazy son of a b----! How dare you blow me off! I’m in love with you! Just watch it jerk! You will die when you least expect it.” That was harsh. Lily: Who’s it from? Scotty: No signature. Lily: Won’t matter. Scotty: How so? Lily: Have you forgotten? Scotty: Right. Board certified. Lily: You know it.
-In the living room. Grace: I never imagined anyone. He was sort of unattached at that point. Lily: So there wasn’t a girl in his life. Grace: Like I said, there was a call from a girl. She asked for Brian. He wasn’t home. After that I got a bunch of calls from someone who just hung up when I answered.

-At the station in the main area. Stillman: So Brian had a rival. Lily: One that was determined to get rid of him. Scotty: That’s motive. Lily: But this note, threatening as it is, doesn’t fit Matt. Scotty: Cameron did mention he had a lot of female fans. Lily: Maybe one of them went a little too far. Stillman: Pay this rival a visit. Even he doesn’t pan out, he might at least reveal who may have written this letter. Lily: Good point.
-Later, Lily and Scotty are at an office. Matt Kemp is sitting at his desk. His image flashes back to age 19 and then returns to 40 as he hangs up and greets the detectives. Matt: Matt Kemp. What can I do for you? Lily: We have a few questions about Brian Zann. Matt: (Pauses) Oh yeah. Scotty: Slipped your mind. Matt: I don’t think about him much. Lily: We’re looking into his death again. Matt: Why. His death was ruled an accident. Lily: We recently found evidence that may point to him being murdered. Matt: (Pauses again) And of course, me hating him so much, you come to me first. Scotty: Brian’s father told us of a fight you two had one night. Matt: We had quite a few of those. Look, I was the up and comer. Brian scoped that place out and watched me. He took notes and disappeared. A few months later, he emerges as this new DJ and ends up getting the best nights. Of course I was mad. Lily: Mad enough to kill him? Matt: Thought crossed my mind. You mean you guys never think about it once in a while. Face it, there are always those people you’d like to just beat to death. But you don’t do it. But I’ll admit it, I wanted to kill him. He had no right invading my territory like that. Scotty: So he watched you, copied you, and improved on it. Came back and took over. Matt: That sounds about right. Scotty: That sounds like a strong motive to me. Lily: Pretty solid to me too. Matt: But there was a happy ending for me. Lily: What kind of ending? Matt: Look, him taking over was the best thing that ever happened to me. After the last fight, some guy came up to me and asked me if I could DJ his frat party. He said he asked Brian but Brian had to work the night he needed. Scotty: So you got the gig? Matt: Oh yeah. And I made good money that night. Got more referrals. More gigs came after that. Well, you can figure the rest. So I didn’t have a reason to kill Brian. Brian was fixated on DJing the club. He was too foolish to see the opportunity I grabbed. Scotty: Was there a possibility Brian might have planned to follow you where you were going? Matt: I don’t know. Brian had just stolen my turf. I was quickly moving into a private enterprise. I wouldn’t rule it out. Especially after Sara came along. Lily: Who was Sara? Matt: Psychogirl.
FLASHBACK TO 1985. “Obsession” by Animotion plays in the background at the club. Brian is on a break. A girl comes up to him. Matt is off with other people, but he is watching. Sara: (In a girl with a crush voice) Hi Brian. Brian: Hi. Sara: I’ve been calling you every day. Your mom says your out but you’ll call me back. Brian: Well, I’ve been busy. Sara: Busy with what? Brian: Stuff. I’ve got lots of things to do. Sara: Like what? Brian: Look, I’m not going to explain it all to you. Sara: So this how you treat me! I pour my heart and soul to you and you pour it right in my face! Brian: You mean throw it back in your face. Sara: Who cares what it sounded like!!!!! You’re missing my point!!!! If you think for one second I’m taking no for an answer you’re crazy!!!!!!! Brian: Whatever. (Turns and walks away) Sara: I will have you!!!!! Just wait and see!!!!! Nobody says no to Sara Welty!!!! NOBODY!!!!!(Get’s a crazy look on her face.)
RETURN TO THE PRESENT
Matt: Let me tell you that girl was obsessed with him since he came in. He gave her attention at first. Big mistake. She was like that with me my first day and I put an end to it quickly. Lily: What did you do? Matt: I guess it’s been over 20 years. This can’t come back to haunt me, can it? Scotty: We’re homicide. Matt: Okay then. I scared this crap out of her. Took her out in the alley and slammed her up against the wall. Told her what I liked, which wasn’t all true, and that was it. She walked away slowly and never bothered me again. Lily: What did you say, exactly? Matt: I’d rather not say. Let’s just say I’m older and more mature now. I wouldn’t do that today. Lily: So how long did you DJ? Matt: A couple more years after that. Then I graduated college. I planned on making a bigger career of it, but I decided not to. Scotty: So you never went back to the club after Brian died? Matt: No way. I made more money doing my thing. The club never really rebounded after that. Eventually, it closed before the ‘90s. Scotty: What happened there? Matt: Heavy metal started. Times changed. Plus Pete Gregg didn’t want to keep the place going anymore. Lily: The owner. Matt: Right. Lily: Do you know whatever became of him? Matt: No. He sold the place and that was it. Scotty: What about Sara Welty? Matt: I think she eventually got married. All she really wanted. A dreamy guy to settle down with. Why she was looking for him at a dance club is beyond me.
-Later, Lily and Scotty are ringing a doorbell. A 38 year old woman answers. Her image flashes back to age 17 to reveal that is Sara. Lily: Sara Welty? Sara: Sara Hunt. I’m married now. Lily: Detective Rush. This is my partner, Detective Valens. Sara: Detectives? That’s unusual around here. (Walks in the house, signaling the two to follow her to the living room.) I mean I’m a simple housewife. Lily: You like being a housewife. Sara: It can get pretty hectic at times. But yes. I love it. I’m not a desperate housewife. I do very well. Lily: We heard in 1985 you were pretty desperate. For a guy named Brian Zann. Sara: Brian Zann. (Get’s a sad and frustrated look on her face) I had a hard time getting over him the first time. I’m not sure I’m up to dealing with that again. Lily: Did you send him any notes? Sara: No. Lily: We have a copy of one of the notes. Sara: You’re lying. You can’t possibly have a copy of a note. His death was ruled accidental. I was there. I watched him die. You don’t know what it’s like to see someone you care about die in front of you. Scotty: Thing is, he didn’t care about you. Sara: He would have in time. Lily: From what Matt Kemp told us, you were persistent. Sara: Matt Kemp is a demented pervert. Scotty: We heard you liked him too. Sara: Until I saw his true colors. Lily: Matt told us something we feel you should know. Sara: What? Lily: He never meant what he said. He was just trying to get you away from him. Sara: No, he was sick. Scotty: Face it, Sara. You stalked guys. Who’s sick here? Sara: No, I didn’t. Scotty: First Matt, then Brian. Sara: (Frustrated) I think you should leave. I don’t have to put up with this in my own home. My husband will be home soon and I will tell him. Lily: Does hubby know what you were like in the ‘80s. Sara: That is a part of my past. We don’t dwell on the past. Scotty: So he has no idea. Sara: Please don’t tell him. Please. Lily: That depends. Sara: Depends on what? Lily: If you didn’t kill Brian, who else might have? Sara: Brian had a girlfriend. A serious girlfriend. Scotty: While you were stalking him. Sara: Of course. Belinda Meloni was her name. Nice girl. Sweet. Lily: And you thought nothing more than to come between them. Sara: All’s fair in love and war. Scotty: So you weren’t a threat. Belinda wouldn’t have felt threatened. I mean you couldn’t break through to him with a missile. Sara: I’ll admit I was sort of a basketcase back then. But I’m calm now. I have the man I need. Enter girl number three. Scotty: Another girl. Sara: Oh yeah. Tiffany Gibb. And let’s just say she got further than I did. Lily: How much further? Sara: Enough for Belinda to confront him a week before he died.
FLASHBACK TO 1985 “Lovergirl” by Teena Marie plays in the background at the club. -A young girl, Tiffany, is standing by Brian’s table, flirting with him. Belinda sees her and walks up to them. Belinda: Hi. So Brian, who’s this? Brian: This is Tiffany. Nice girl. Belinda: She looks nice. I’m Belinda. Brian’s girlfriend. Just to let you know. Tiffany: Okay. Thanks for letting me know. Anyway, Brian, you should DJ one of my parties sometime. My parents would love to have you. Belinda: Real subtle. Why not just open your blouse right now? Tiffany: I beg your parson. Belinda: Find another direction and move that way, now!!! Tiffany: Sure, honey. Talk to you later, Bri. -Tiffany walks away. Belinda: Brian, we need to talk. Brian: I’m kind of busy working right now. Belinda: Tiffany. What’s the deal with her? Brian: There’s no deal. You’re the one I’m with. Belinda: Really? Why does she keep coming up here? Make her go away. Brian: I can’t help it if the girls around like me. But I can only like one back. Belinda: I don’t like her!!!! You need to make it clear to her that I am yours. Brian: I’m not going to alienate dancers because you’re so insecure. Belinda: Well, you better start!!!!!!!!!!! Or else!!!! Or else!!! You’ll see. -Belinda walks away.
Return to the present
Sara: I may have made a fool of myself, but Belinda made a statement that night. And Matt saw it as an opportunity. Scotty: An opportunity for what? Sara: To reclaim his spot as number one DJ. Lily: He told us he was doing private parties. Sara: Maybe true. But he was still trying to get rid of Brian. Besides, I heard a few of those parties didn’t go very well. Lily: So Belinda was his girlfriend? Sara: Officially, but I was still trying to work him a bit. Might have succeeded had he not died. (Turns to Lily) Looks like we’ll never know, will we?

-At the station. Lily: So Matt is not exactly out of the suspect pool, yet. Scotty: And from what Sara said, this Tiffany girl was a real threat. Kat: That makes two additional suspects. Vera: If Tiffany was so hot, she might not have taken no for an answer. Lily: And not having Sara’s reputation for stalking, nobody would suspect her. Scotty: What about Belinda? Kat: Seems like she just liked him, but we can’t rule her out. Lily: Let’s fan out. Scotty and I will visit Belinda. If she wasn’t responsible, she might know something. Vera: Kat and I will talk with Tiffany.
-On the mainline, Vera and Kat are sitting in a large living room with Tiffany Gibb, last name is now Maybaum. Tiffany: (Image flashes back age 21) That was a night I’ll never forget. And I’ve had many memorable nights. (Image returns to 42) Vera: You scored a lot back then? Tiffany: I was young then. Had some fun. But I settled down and married not long after. Look, I was gorgeous, but I wasn’t about to become a floozy for the rest of my life. I always planned on marrying rich. Kat: You seem to have done well. Tiffany: Well, I was determined. Of course I was rich then too. So I had my pick. Vera: We heard you had eyes on Brad. Tiffany: For a good time. But I never saw a future with him. At least not the kind I wanted. Kat: He wasn’t good enough for you? Tiffany: I didn’t mean he was no good. He just wasn’t what I was aspiring to. But he was cute, charming, and well not so… I can’t describe it. He was a gentlemen in a time when that was a hard trait to come by. The 1980s just didn’t have that. But I managed to find one after. Vera: So who do you think might have killed him? Tiffany: I don’t know. We thought it was an accident all these years. Sara Welty. She was stalking him at the time. Vera: We talked to her already. She talked about Belinda confronting Brian after you got a little close. Tiffany: Yeah, I did try to get him from her. And Belinda did get mad. But she was harmless. Brian liked her. Nothing was going to change that. Kat: Maybe you couldn’t stand someone else having him. Vera: Maybe killed him. Tiffany: But then none of us would have him. Doesn’t seem right now does it? Vera: We heard that Matt Kemp was sort of jealous of Brian. Tiffany: Oh yeah. Those two fought like crazy. Not violent. Yelling happened a lot. Matt eventually left to DJ private parties. Kat: We heard that didn’t go very well. Tiffany: Uh, wrong. It went very well. He was really raking it in. But he did want his spot back at the dance club. See, executives from radio stations frequented the place, looking for new talent. Vera: And he wanted in. Tiffany: Oh yes. But Brian was really taking all the good nights. Matt was getting desperate. I mean, it’s not like these radio types go to private parties. Kat: What about Sara? Tiffany: Desperate was her middle name. And don’t think for a minute she gave up on him. She never did. Even on the night he died, she was still convinced he was alive. It was crazy.
-Back at the station, Lilly and Scotty are sitting with Belinda Meloni, last name is now Bertelli. Her image flashes back to age 18, and then returns to 39. Belinda: Brian and I were in love. It was so long ago. Losing him was hard. Impossible almost. I mean I still dream about him. I didn’t get married until 10 years after. Lilly: Are you over him? Belinda: Pretty much. I mean we never married or did it. But he was my first love. My husband is pretty understanding about it. I think watching him die like that makes it hard. I think it’s more about that than missing him. Scotty: You know anyone who might have wanted to hurt Brian? Belinda: Take your pick. Tiffany was a hot chick, Sara was nuts, and Matt. Mr. Gregg was pretty scary himself. Lily: The owner. Belinda: More like a mob boss. I’ve never told anybody this, but Gregg had power over the people who worked for him. Brian would tell me things about Pete intimidating the employees there. Putting the moves on the waitresses. Lily: Do you think Pete might have fixed the wiring to kill him? Belinda: I wouldn’t put it past him. Scotty: Do you have any idea what became of him? Belinda: Once again, never told this to anybody. Lily: You know? Belinda: He runs a nightclub down in Miami. Scotty: Now, how does a sweet girl like know this? Belinda: Hubby works for a newspaper. Pete Gregg runs a nightclub in Miami that is currently under investigation. Lily: Under investigation for what? Belinda: Threatening employees. Just like he threatened Brian. Scotty: That spells motive to me. Lily: Think you can get your husband to help us out? Belinda: If it leads to Brian’s killer, yes.
-Later, at the station. Lily: Belinda’s husband is down there right now covering the story. Stillman: What’s the story? Lily: One of Peter’s employees was found dead on the beach. The evidence points directly to him. Scotty: Perhaps we can extradite. Stillman: Let’s hold off on that for now. If Belinda’s husband can find xomething out, we can keep in touch with Miami. Vera: This guy looks like bad news. Jeffries: But why would this guy kill his number one DJ? Kat: Maybe Brian was going to leave. Scotty: Pete did have Matt to fall back on. One way or another, Pete makes out. Stillman: Is there anybody else from the club. A waitress, bouncer, anybody. Lily: Files don’t mention other people much. It was ruled an accident quickly. Scotty: And closed quickly. Vera: I’m thinking. If this wasn’t an accident. Then how did the electrocution come about? Lily: What do you mean? Vera: What does the file say? Scotty: Just said he was electrocuted. Forensics examined the equipment. It caught fire and most of it burned up. The whole area caught on fire. Wasn’t much to the investigation. Vera: Nothing on the wires in the equipment? Lily: No. Nothing on that. File said the equipment was badly damaged. So much they couldn’t tell what caused it. Vera: Talk to Belinda again. If she was close to him that she might remember what his area looked like. I’ve got a feeling on something. Jeffries: Like what? Vera: I’m thinking someone messed with the wiring. In order to electrocute someone, you need an open circuit. And it’s a dance club. That means plenty of drinks around. Jeffries: Pretty to easy to tip one over and walk away. We got any video footage of the club? Lily: No. Scotty: And I’m sure it’s not in storage anywhere. Lily: I guess we have to wait until we hear more about the owner in Miami. Belinda said he was currently in jail, no bond set. Stillman: Well, since I have you all here. There’s something I need to talk to you all about. Lily: What is it, boss? Stillman: "Josie chippy" Sutton. Report came in this morning. She went missing. Scotty: What happened? Stillman: They’re not sure yet. There’s no sign she was planning to leave but she’d been upset since she quit the force. -There is a pause. Vera: Well don’t look at me. I didn’t do anything. How was I supposed to know what really happened. Scotty: You did sort of make her feel unwelcome. Vera: Hey, it was a mistake. Stillman: Anyway, I sort of wanted you to know the FBI is on it. You don’t have to worry about it. Lily: Thanks for telling us. -Stillman walks away.
Lily: I can’t believe it. Vera: I didn’t think she’d get that upset. Jeffries: Don’t blame yourself. Probably has nothing to do with you. Scotty: The truth is that "Josie chippy" was the one being harassed, not the other way around. Sort of makes you think. Lily: Well, I guess there’s not much else we can do right now. Scotty: Going somewhere after work. Lily: No. It’s over between Joseph and me. Vera: You mean the fugitive is now a fugitive again. Lily: Guess so.
-Later at Lily’s house. Lily is all alone with her cats. She is reading a book when she decides to get up. She puts her coat on and slowly walks to the door. She opens it and leaves.

-The next morning. Belinda is sitting at Lily’s desk. Belinda: My husband was able to get a few things from the police but most of it is out in the papers there. A bouncer complained that Pete threatened to kill him. Had a gun in his hand. Bouncer managed to get it from him. Police were going to arrest a bouncer until the others came forward. And there may have been a murder a few years back. Miami is still looking into it. Lily: Did Pete ever threaten people like that in ’85? Belinda: He wasn’t always nice to everyone. You know, come to think of it, he was upset with Brian. He started giving Brian the cold shoulder. And Brian was up to something. He was ready to make a big decision. But I don’t know what that was. He never got to tell me. Lily: He died instead. Belinda: Whatever he was going to tell me, it was going to be later that night. But he went back to his table and died in front of everyone. You know, I love my husband. Lily: But you still miss Brian. Belinda: I don’t know. It’s stupid. Lily: I worked a case like this once. Belinda: Really? Lily: ’86. A 15 year old girl. Raped and murdered. Boyfriend stabbed and left for dead. He was just like you are now. Lost, confused, unsure. Reopening the case almost destroyed his marriage. Because he never really got over her. Belinda: It’s unnatural to lose someone so early. I always thought it would be Brian and me forever. Lily: That’s how this guy felt. But in time he was able to realize what I told him. Belinda: What did you tell him? Lily: I told him that he was here, and she was not. And I think its good advice. Belinda: It is. I have to let him go. Lily: You love your husband now, don’t you? Belinda: Yes, I do. Lily: Then make him your light. Make him the one you were meant to be with. Because he’s with you now. And that’s better than nothing. You wouldn’t be with him otherwise. Belinda: (Smiles) True.
-A young man in his early 30s walks in. Belinda looks at him. Belinda: That man. He looks like Brian. Lily: How can you tell? Belinda: Everything about him looks like Brian. Lily: His name is Jeff. He’s Brian’s younger brother. Belinda: I never met the family.
-Belinda gets up and walks up to him. Both images flash back to what they looked like in 1985. Lily: You Jeff Zann? Jeff: Yeah. Lily: Detective Rush. We spoke on the phone. Jeff: Right. Who’s this pretty girl? Lily: Her name is Belinda. She was in love with your brother. Jeff: Were you the sane one? Belinda: Yes, I was. You look just like him. It’s amazing. Lily: We wanted to talk to you because, well, you were his brother. -All three sit down at Lily’s desk. Jeff: Brian loved his job. Wanted to do it forever. But it never happened. We had a memorial service for him. No casket. I never got to see him after he died. Lily: You were young, Jeff. Your parents were probably protecting you. Jeff: It’s all my fault he’s dead. Belinda: No, Jeff. It wasn’t your fault. Jeff: Yes, it was.
FLASHBACK TO 1985 “Shout” by Tears for Fears” plays in the background -In the garage, Jeff is looking at the equipment, checking it when he notices the wires were messed with. The insulation was cut open, exposing the wire. Brian enters. Brian: What are you doing? Jeff: Nothing? I was just…. Brian: You’re not supposed to mess with my equipment. Jeff: I’m sorry. But I saw something you need to…. Brian: Look, just leave it alone. Get out of here. I need to get ready. Jeff: Listen to me…. Brian: I’m busy. Now beat it.
-Jeff walks away.
Return to the present.
Lily: You’re sure the wires were open. Jeff: Positive. I tried to tell Brian but he wouldn’t listen. Lily: How many days before he died did you notice it. Jeff: He died that night. I don’t know how long they’d been that way. Lily: So somebody may have been tampering with the wires. Belinda: But who? And how? Brian guarded that equipment with his life. Lily: At the club. What about at home? Jeff: Friends and family were in and out of there like crazy. Detectives came to talk to my parents back then but they never looked around. They thought it was an accident. Lily: Jeff, somebody tampered with the wires at the house. Jeff: A girl showed up once. Sort of crazy. My parents were out. She was in the garage where Brian kept the equipment. She said she was looking for Brian but I chased her off. Lily: And you never told Brian. Jeff: I tried to tell him when I noticed the equipment was tampered with but he wouldn’t listen. I tried several times. Even tried to tell him about the girl. Lily: When did you see this girl? Jeff: A few days before he died. He had a day or two off. I remember that. She wasn’t alone. When she ran, she got into a car with a guy. Lily: You get a good look? Jeff: I did. I remember what both of them looked like. Lily: If we showed you pictures of them from ’85 do you think you could I.D. them? Jeff: Yes. Belinda: You know, Sara was a little nervous that night. Like she was anticipating something. Now that I think of it, it all makes sense. She was watching him the whole night. And not the way she usually did. She was possessed.
-Later in the interrogation room with Sara Sara: I know you’re not going to try to pin an accident on me and change it to murder. Vera: You bet we are. Lily: Brian’s younger brother, Jeff. He remembers you sneaking into the garage a few nights before he died. Vera: That gives you plenty of time to damage a few wires. Lily: You know, rip some of the insulation out, make them frayed. All we need now is a little water to complete a circuit. Vera: All because he rejected you. Lily: Or maybe you struck a deal with someone else. Sara: Like who? Lily: Brian’s rival Matt. Vera: Jeff saw you get into his car. Were you two in on it together? Sara: In on what? Vera: Killing him? Sara: I didn’t kill him. Lily: But you were at Brian’s house? Sara: Alright. We sort of made a deal. You know, tamper with the equipment. Brian would have to fix it. He’d lose a few nights. Vera: And Matt would fill in. Lily: Recapture the thrown as head DJ. Sara: Exactly. Vera: And what exactly did you get out of it. Sara: I was going to, well, you know. What else did I have to offer then. Not like it mattered. Brian’s little brother scared me off before I could do anything about it. Vera: And Matt can back your story up. Sara: He won’t say anything different. Trust me. He won’t.
-Later. Lily: Well Sara insists she never went through with it. Vera: But if not her, who else. Lily: Jeff? No. His father was there when he tried to tell his brother about the equipment and the girl. Vera: But if his father heard, why didn’t he ever bother to mention now or in ’85? Scotty: That’s shady. Kat: But why would he try to kill Brian? Lily: I don’t think he tried to kill him.
-In the interrogation room. Tom: This is wrong. I didn’t kill my son. Lily: You stood there while Jeff tried to warn Brian. Scotty: And later, when Brian was electrocuted, you left that piece of information out. Lily: Not to mentioned you left out those details when talking to us. Tom: I didn’t….. (pauses and bows head down) mean for him to die. I just didn’t want him to waste his life being a DJ. I tampered with the wires. Brian never should have gone out but I couldn’t tell him it was me. I figured the girl was there. Brian would have noticed but he never did. Lily: So you let him go off and die. Tom: (Crying) I never wanted him to die. I couldn’t tell Grace. It would have killed her. Lily: Well, she’s gonna know now.
-Later. Lily: Well, looks like we wrapped this case. Scotty: Maybe not. Lily: What do you mean? Scotty: We heard back from Miami P.D. And you’re not gonna believe it. Lily: What? Scotty: They rushed this video up to Philly the minute Pete gave it up. It’s live footage of Brian being killed. Vera: You’re kidding. Scotty: I viewed it once already. And we noticed something.
-Scotty hits play. Brian is at the table with his equipment. Suddenly he is electrocuted. However, it looks as if the circuit is coming from under the table. Scotty: See. The initial spark came from below the table. Not from the equipment. Lily: So Brian’s dad is innocent. Scotty: If you look further, you notice Brian goes into a shock and his hands instantly touch the equipment. Kat: Continuing the circuit to destroy everything. Scotty: Miami said Pete got a deal for delivering this tape. Lily: Did he get the whole evening? Scotty: He got everything. Including the hours before. Take a look.
-The video shows someone sneaking under the table. Lily: That’s a girl. Kat: But it’s hard to tell who. Lily: Sara? Vera: Tiffany. She’s dressed like Sara. She looks too hot. Jeffries: And Belinda. Lily: Sara was chunkier than Tiffany. Maybe we can have forensics blow the image up for us. Scotty: Gotcha.

-Later, in the main area. Lily: There you have it. The blown up image. Scotty: That’s Tiffany. Vera: Definitely, Tiffany. Scotty: But why would Tiffany do something like that. Lily: Let’s bring them in and find out.
-In the first interrogation room. Tiffany is sitting with Lilly and Scotty. Tiffany: I don’t understand why I am even here. Lily: We learned a few things about you. Tiffany: Really? Scotty: How you went under the table Brian was DJing. Tiffany: That’s crazy. Lily: Well we have the pictures to prove it. Tiffany: (Looks at the picture) It was Sara. Scotty: Yeah, that’s what we thought. But we wondered how she lost all the weight so quickly. Lily: You see this was taken from a video, Tiffany. We looked at the entire night. Nobody else went under that table. Scotty: We also know it wasn’t the equipment that shorted out. Lily: The electric current came from under the table. And we knew you were there earlier. (Pauses) What did you do, Tiffany? Tiffany: I want a lawyer. Call my husband. Scotty: We’ll get you a lawyer. Tiffany: My husband will clean the floor with that pretty blonde hair of yours. Lily: You want a catfight, honey. Because if that’s what you want, that’s what you’ll get. Tiffany: (Image flashes back to 1985) Then bring it on baby.
-Outside the interrogation room. Lily: You know, I’m beginning to wonder. Scotty: Wonder what? Lily: Sara was caught at the house, right? Scotty: Right? Lily: She was trying to sabotage the equipment. But that attempt failed. Scotty: So you’re thinking…. Lily: Matt was behind that plan. Scotty: So what Tiffany did was Plan B. Lily: Maybe Sara knows more about the plan.
-Later, Sara is at Lily’s desk. Sara: I have tried to push that out of my head for 21 years. Lily: Brian died, Sara. And you knew. Sara: No. That time at the house. The idea was to mess him up. Give Matt a chance. Lily: You had no idea what his motives were? Sara: Not at first. But then he asked me to pour water under his feet. He would cut a wire open and expose the circuit to the floor. Scotty: And you refused. Sara: I thought it was stupid. But I never thought he’d find anybody to take my place. (Starts crying) I thought he would come to his senses and forget about it. I may have been mad at Brian for ignoring me, but I never would have harmed him. And when he died I knew if I came forward his brother would ID me. I was afraid I would be blamed and it wasn’t me. Please. You can’t tell my husband. He doesn’t know any of this. (Image flashes back ) And he’ll freak out. (Returns to normal) Lily: Sara, you had a crush on a guy. And you may have taken it too far. But you need to tell him. He won’t judge you. Sara: I don’t want to lose him the way I lost Brian. Lily: What else do you know about that night? Sara: I just know Matt was determined to get rid of Brian and become the number one DJ. And he was there that night. But I don’t know what else happened. And he seemed happy. Not his usual jealous and bitter self. Lily: Like he knew Brian wasn’t going to be around much longer. Sara: That’s the look.
-In a different interrogation room. Matt is with Vera and Kat Vera: We gotcha Matt. Matt: Got me for what? Kat: Murder. Matt: I didn’t kill Brian. Kat: Technically no but you definitely planned it. Matt: I think you want to talk to Sara. Vera: Nice try. But we got footage from the dance club that night. We know a girl went under the table but it wasn’t Sara. Kat: In fact, we got the girl in the other room right now. Matt: Yeah right. Vera: Tiffany. -Matt looks nervous. Kat: She’s talkin’. Vera: About how you planned to get rid of Brian and become the big cheese once again. Matt: You’re lying. Vera: You want to take that chat. -Matt looks at Vera. Vera: Your choice.
-In the other room. Lily: Tiffany, we know you want your lawyer, but we just wanted to let you know we got Matt in the other room. Scotty: We also talked to Sara again. Lily: Seems Matt tried to get her to pull off your little stunt. Scotty: Thing is, I don’t get why you would do it. I mean Sara was nuts, but you clearly could have any guy you wanted. Lily: So why fall into Matt’s arms again? Tiffany: I told you. Lawyer. Lily: That’s fine, but I get the feeling Matt doesn’t quite have the same financial resources you do. Scotty: He’ll talk in record time. Lily: Unless you want to beat him. Tiffany: That’s not going to work. -Door opens. Jeffries walks in. Lily walks up to him as he whispers in her ear. Lily listens and returns to the table. The door shuts. Lily: Matt’s talking. He says you did it. Tiffany: He’s lying. Lily: We have no real evidence of him killing Brian and you are the only one we have it against.
-Other room. Vera: Come on, Matt. Tiffany’s got money. You think she cares about you. She’ll probably get off but you. You’re going away for a long time. Matt: I don’t think so. I didn’t do a thing. Kat: We know you tried to talk Sara into doing it. She refused. Vera: So you got Tiffany to do your dirty work. Matt: I didn’t get Tiffany to do anything. Look, I’ll admit that I wanted to get rid of Brian. But I stopped with Sara. Sara would have done anything to get close to Brian, but she never would have killed him. And as far as Tiffany was concerned, she had a mind of her own. She did what she wanted, not the other way around. Vera: That so. She wanted Brian. You too probably. Matt: She had me. A year earlier.
-Outside the interrogation room. Lily: Tiffany’s not giving it up. Vera: Neither is Matt. He insists he stopped after Sara changed her mind. Sara: Then why was he smiling on the dance floor. He knew something was going on. Vera: Wait a minute. Lil, you still got that note Sara gave Brian. Sara: The love letter, you mean. I’m ashamed I ever wrote those. They were sappy and pathetic. I really laid on the cheese. Vera: No, we got the one you sent where you threatened to kill him. Sara: I never sent him a threatening letter. Lily: This is the letter. -Sara looks at it. Sara: I didn’t write this. Scotty: Then, who did? -Everyone looks at the interrogation room where Tiffany is waiting.
-Lily and Scotty walk into the interrogation room. Lily: Your husband is coming. Tiffany: Good. Lily: When he gets here we can settle this whole thing. Tiffany: I’m still not saying anything about Brian. Lily: You don’t have to. Tiffany: In fact, I think I’m going to leave. Lily: We can’t let you do that. We have evidence that places you at the scene of a murder. Tiffany: Along with many other people. Lily: But you were the only one who went under the table. You forgot that. Tiffany: Whatever? Lily: Oh, we need your purse. Tiffany: Why? Lily: We need to look through it. Tiffany: Not without a warrant. -Lily pulls out a warrant. Lily: Here. -Tiffany looks at it. Tiffany: Why not? I’m not sure why you need my driver’s license. -Lily takes the purse and takes out the license. She then pulls out the note written to Brian. Lily: It’s a perfect match. Tiffany: What is? Lily: The handwriting on this note. It matches your signature on your driver’s license. Tiffany: So I sent a note. Lily: A note that threatened to kill Brian. Tiffany: So? Lily: Video of you under the table. This note. Tiffany: You have nothing. Lily: The handwriting is a perfect match. I’m a board certified handwriting expert. And they both match. Tiffany: (Looking scared) Where’s my husband? Lily: He’s coming. Why? Are you afraid? Tiffany: No. Lily: You really loved Brian, didn’t you? -Tiffany gets quiet. Lily: It really did hurt that Brian ignored you. I mean Sara lived in fantasy world. You know, we asked her how long she stalked Matt before giving up. It was a full year. She only was stalking Brian five months. Now I find it hard to believe she had given up decided to kill him that quickly. No, she was nowhere near finished with her obsession. You see here’s what I think happened. You overheard Sara telling Matt no that last time. And you saw an opportunity. It was perfect. Overhear a plot to kill Brian. Realize it was going to happen. So you made it happen. Matt knew what was happening. If you don’t talk, he will. The statute of limitations on what he did wrong has worn out. Just because he knew doesn’t mean he’s responsible legally.
-In the other room. Lily: Well Matt. You did get lucky that night, didn’t you? Matt: I don’t follow. Lily: You’re luck with Tiffany. We know Sara didn’t want to go through with your plan. Matt: No she didn’t. Lily: But Tiffany decided to go ahead with it, didn’t she? Matt: Yes. She did. Scotty: And you just let it happen? Matt: I was 19 then. I didn’t know any better. I wouldn’t have done that today. Besides, I couldn’t come forward then. And I certainly didn’t want to go under the table too. Doesn’t matter. Tiffany was going to do it eventually. She was more of a threat to him than Sara ever could be. Lily: Do you feel any remorse for what you let happen? Matt: Yes. I feel bad. But what can I do about it now. I watched her go under the table. She did everything the way I wanted Sara to do it. But… Look when Sara refused I realized how bad it was. But then Tiffany went and did it. And I thought, “Wow! She’s doing it and I didn’t get her to do it. I can’t be blamed for it.” I wasn’t thinking about a human being dying. Lily: Is that why you stopped DJing? Guilt? Matt: Being a DJ is something I always wanted to be. I just couldn’t do it after that. I figured if I couldn’t come forward, I would sacrifice that. It just didn’t feel right after that. But I pulled back from my plan. Lily: Tell us everything. Tell us what you saw her do. You wouldn’t stop it in ’85. Let his death have closure now. Matt: Alright. But I get immunity from prosecution. Lily: Deal.
-Back in the room with Tiffany. Lily: We got you, Tiffany. Matt told us how you must have overheard Sara refusing his plan. So you decided to back at Brian by killing him. And seeing that Sara and Matt were such good planners, you knew they would keep quiet. -Tiffany just sits there. Scotty: Looks like Tiffany ain’t talking. Lily: Well, considering how much trouble she’s in, I don’t blame her. Maybe we should show her the video tape again. Scotty: You know, the one showing you under the table. -Tiffany just sits there. Lily: While we’re at it, let’s the footage of Brian dying!!!! The camera caught that too. Wasn’t so easy to see the first time either. But I’m sure you stomach it. -Tears roll down Tiffany’s eyes. Lily: You were in love with Brian, weren’t you? More so than Sara. It’s hard loving someone who wouldn’t love you back. But Belinda won and you were left without the prize. And you weren’t about to let Brian go, were you? Tiffany: (Tears still falling) I was everything. Boys loved me, wanted me. But he could see me for who I was. Shallow, empty, conceited. I still am that way. My husband has his mistress. I have my guy on the side. It’s an empty life. Lily: But it’s a life. Something Brian doesn’t have. And for 21 years he hasn’t had it. Tiffany: I honestly don’t know what I was thinking. I just did it. I figured nobody would have suspected me. Lily: Because of Sara? Tiffany: Yes. She couldn’t control herself but she let it out. I bottled it in. Lily: What happened? Tiffany: I can’t!!! Lily: Yes, you can. You need to face what you did. Don’t let us use the tape. Tiffany: Yes, you need to. (Pauses and looks up at Lily) I need to see it again. Painful as that will be for me, I need to see it. I need to see him again. Even it means seeing him die. Please let me see it again. -A few minutes later. The TV is in the interrogation room. -Lily turns the TV on and puts the tape in. Tiffany watches it. The image on the TV becomes the actually flashback. Tiffany overhears Sara telling Matt no to the plan to kill Brian. Matt walks away from her angry. Tiffany gets a look on her face. She sneaks under the table and looks around. This part is not on the tape but it is now part of Tiffany explaining what she is doing while the tape is playing. She spots a wire plugged into an outlet not part of Brian’s equipment. She unplugs it, noticing it is a lamp at a nearby table. She uses a nailfile to wear the insulation off. She plugs the lamp back in making the opened part of the wire is on the floor. She gets out from under the table. She goes to get a drink. She moves in close to where Brian is standing. He can’t see her. She quickly spills the liquid on the floor by the wire. Brian eventually steps on the wet floor. He gets a shock and grabs the stereo equipment. He dies in front of everyone. Tiffany looks at him, crying. Everyone runs out of the club.
-“Voices Carry” by “Til Tuesday plays as Tiffany is arrested and taken out of the room. She is led out of the main area with Matt and Sara watching. Belinda is also there. All images flash back to what they looked like in 1985. Tiffany walks by them and their images flashback to the present again. She starts crying as she leaves the main area. Lily is now in the case file room, filing the box. Scotty is with her. The two walk out. Back at Brian’s house, Brian’s parents are with Jeff as they hug. They look at a picture of Brian on the mantel. Their images flash back to what they looked like in 1985. Later, Vera is sitting at his desk, reading the missing person’s report on "Josie chippy" Sutton. He gets a guilty look on his face. Jeffries walks up to him and pats him on the back, as if to say, “Don’t be so hard on yourself.” Lily does the same and as she walks out of the area, she looks to the side and sees Cameron standing there. She smiles at him as she walks up to him. His image flashes back to what he looked like in 1985 and then returns to the present again. Lily looks to the side to see Brian smiling back. She smiles at him before his image disappears. The two walk out of the area and into the elevator.

Author's Note: I could have done better on this one. Truth is, I kept changing things and got a little impatient. Oh well, the real Cold Case has so-so episodes too.
Next Episode: The New World The last American survivor of the Titanic disaster comes to Rush and Valens. Maureen Connor was only five when the ship sank. She was traveling with her mother, who died that morning. But Maureen claims her mother was killed earlier before the iceberg hit. A young woman named Anna Cruetian took Maureen as her own after being rescued but was murdered in Philly a few months later. Maureen is convinced the murders are connected. With full memory of the events intact, Maureen takes Lilly through the events that lead to two unsolved murders in 1912.
Believe it or not, I found this plot to be possible because of the twist I have coming.

Other upcoming fan fics. More have been added.
22. Survivors After a group of college kids are found dead in their off-campus house, Rush and Valens reopen a series of group killings that date back to 1992. An unknown person killed a group of young people in 1992, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2002, 2005, and now 2006. All the massacres had one thing in common: They left one or two survivors. But the latest massacre did not. Rush and Valens must now interview each survivor, all of whom have taken different paths since the different massacres. The key to the case is the latest massacre, which appears to have been done in haste.
23. The Backpack A former homeless junky's nephew comes in with a backpack that the junky claims belonged to a young teenage boy who may have been murdered in the early '90s. The items in the backpack are dated to about 1990. There's not much to go on until fingerprints on the items match a prison inmate and another person Lilly knows well.
24. Monsters Due On Maple Street Philly's most bizarre cold case is reopened. Judy Clevenger went missing in 1955. Her children claim an alien took her away. Now, the remains of an alien costume are found buried in the backyard of a house on the same street along with her remains. Now that it is known the alien theory is debunked, the team must find out who impersonated an alien and why.
25. Out of His League A young man is released from prison after two years for a drug-related charge. His girlfriend, Lacy Whitfield, was murdered the night he was arrested but time of death ruled him out. He is convinced her death was meant to frame him. Certain clues pointed to him. Rush and Valens reopen the 2004 murder to give the man closure before he leaves to return to his hometown. They learn the girl was from a well-to-do family who didn't welcome the young man with open arms.
26. The Exhibit Rush and Valens are called to an art gallery to examine an exhibit by a now deceased artist. The paintings bear a striking resemblance to a murder scene from 1978 that left a mother of two dead. The kids were put in foster care. It is believed the deceased artist may have been one of the children. As Rush digs deeper into the case, she once again must come face to face with someone she met in a previous cold case.
27. Talk Radio The 1993 murder of a conservative radio talk show host is reopened after fallout from the recent election compells someone to point the finger at a current politician as the doer. Rush and Valens discover a member of a special interest group made threats to the victim prior to his death. Eventually, the list grows so large the case gets unbearable.
28. Trick or Treat Edna Morgan was beaten to death in her home Halloween night in 1984. Her body was dragged outside into her backyard and set on fire. A real estate agent discovers the murder weapon hidden in a crack that leads to an opening near the fireplace. Rush and Valens must now reinterview people in the neighborhood, many of whom were children in 1984.
29. Fallout This one will be from 1961 and covers the Cuban Missile Crisis.
30. Garcia This case will be from 1996 and cover the Beanie Baby craze.
That's all for now. I'll try to come up with more later.

As always, I'm impressed with your details in the music, the scenes and flashbacks, all the things that go into script format, and you were still able to keep the story flowing. Nice job!

Wow!! I am still excited that everyone liked this one because I felt I rushed it too much. I'm glad you liked it too, michelle. I need to get to work on the next one now.
