What happened after the last scene in Saving Sammy with Lilly?
As Lilly lay there next to Olivia all alone in the dark, tears started to stream down her delicate face as her eyes focused on the key. She found herself yet alone without a pair of strong arms to hold her close to kiss all her worries away. Her heart felt like it had been smashed into little pieces, scattering about deep inside and for that Joseph didn’t seem to care Getting up slowly, leaving the coat on the tear-soaked couch, Lilly headed slowly upstairs.
After changing into a pair of Pajamas and climbing into bed, she lay there as tears flooded her blue eyes. The words: Failure, Freak and loser chanted loudly in her mind as if they had been there mocking her whole life. In Lilly’s mind she was a nobody, to everyone that had ever set foot in her path. She was convinced that Joseph had seen it too and decided to leave her like everyone else had done. Another voice from the past still taunted her: George. His eerie words echoed in her mind whispering “You will be alone like me”. Still Lilly began to cry out loud as she pulled her knees up closer to her.
“Nobody wants to love and care for me, I’m totally worthless to anyone” she thought as tears fell harder. “Why can’t I find happiness” as her thoughts subsided. Continuing to think Lilly couldn’t sleep, she could bear to sleep one more night alone. Anger then flowed through her veins as her feet hit the floor; her eyes caught her reflection in the mirror.
With one swift move, the glass when flying as blood dripping from the palms of her hand; realizing what she had done Lilly huddled into a corner ignoring her blood covered hand.
By 9am the next morning, Scotty became frantic usually Lilly would have been there by now. Grabbing his coat he headed down to her house, her door was unlocks which sent a wave of panic. Her house was cold as he headed upstairs, blood and glass was scattered all over the carpet of her bedroom. The curtains were closed giving the impression of what it was like to be inside of her head. As Scotty came closer he noticed, Lilly sitting there shaking as one of her hands were covered in blood.
Lips that were once red were now as shade of blue, even her eyes had lost that certain sparkle. Tears were still running as Scotty sat down next to her, pushing away some hair from her face. Never in four years had he seen Lilly like this, she was broken like the mirror beyond repair.
“You’re cold Lil” Scotty said touching her clammy arms
Lilly stared straight ahead still rocking back and forth, as if she had lost all faith in herself. Sitting down beside her, he tried to clean off her hand. No emotion was registered as Scotty bandaged up her hand. For hours she sat there, breathing in and out while he watched her. By nightfall, he took a sponge and getting blotted her head.
The cold water rolled down her pale face without a motion from her. She was so beautiful he thought to himself as he gently put up her hair in a ponytail. Picking her up, he then carried her to her bed and pulled the blankets closer. Still Lilly’s eyes refused to close.
Days and hours then weeks passed by without any sign, it broke Scotty to see her like this. Suddenly things started to go from nothing to very extreme. For instance, Lilly got herself so worked up that she smashed her own bedroom window in a fit on emotional anger. Which also left Scotty with two broken fingers.

Later that night, Stillman and Scotty were talking about her as Lilly crawled by the stairs listening to the two men speak. She knew she was a failure not just in herself, but her job and with love. In fact she wanted to run away far from anyone who had ever hurt her, to somewhere safe. Life to her was pretty much over, nothing to live for nobody to love. Lilly knew she would never see the day where she be decked out in white, or feel the first kicks of her unborn child.
“No one could love a monster like me; to everyone I’m just a piece of floating air that everyone can ignore”. She thought.
Downstairs, Scotty argued with Stillman over what to do with Lilly.
“Boss, you can’t have her committed “he said sternly
“Look Scotty, She broke two of your fingers and nearly screwed up the case last May, I can’t let her go on like this “.
Scotty then saw Lilly watching him, eyes wild like an animal “ Let me help her Boss, take her somewhere where she can get better “.
Before Stillman left “Pack her bags tomorrow morning she is being committed and there’s to be no buts about it”.
After his car disappeared, Scotty raced up the stairs throwing some of her things into a smaller bag. With one motion, he carried both the bag and Lilly out to his car, he wasn’t about to let anyone damage her more. Driving along the highway, Lilly stared out straight ahead not making any noise or motion. Scotty knew he had to get out of Pennsylvania and into the countryside of New York to help her recover.
By the time the car had stopped, it was morning with flurries lingering in the air. The air was fresh but Lilly didn’t notice anything around her, nothing did anymore. Inside it was a small cabin as she immediately sat down on the edge of the bed. Her hands were shaking even when Scotty draped a blanket around her. Lying back, she held the pillow closer to her face.
Lilly’s stomach let out a loud growl as she felt it’s emptiness on the inside. Scotty lay next to her looked deeper into her blue eyes. All she ever wanted was to be loved; he knew she didn’t come into this world with love.
Scotty knew that Lilly just simply could lie there all day and night. She needed to get out for some fresh air, but how could he convince her? Her long blonde hair was hanging over her shoulder as tears were still reminiscent on her face. Gently rubbing her back, he could feel her breathing in and out slowly. Scotty then pushed back some of her hair and gently placed a kiss on her forehead.
Not looking up Lilly whispered “Why did you do that”?
Scotty pulled her up “You’re coming with me, you need some fresh air”.
She pulled back but knew he was only trying to help her.
Sliding off the bed, Lilly headed towards the bathroom and shut the door. Turning on the water and stepping underneath the spray she stood there letting the warm water run down her back. After showering herself, the water shut off as the cold air sent chills up and down her body. Wearing now regular clothes, Lilly sighed as she got on her coat and followed Scotty outside.
The weather was cold but beautiful the way the snow was falling lightly. Scotty took her hand as they began to walk. He then stopped a few miles down and looked at her staring straight ahead lost in thought.
“Close your eyes and look up at the sky “he whispered.
Lilly shook her head not wanting to trust him. “I’m not going to hurt you Lil” his voice whispered into her ear.
Taking a chance she obeyed closing her eyes and feeling the snow falling down on her face. The wind was blowing through her hair as Scotty held her hand, her breathing was slow as if Lilly herself was scared deep down to let it out.

“No one’s going to hurt you” he said opening the door into the cabin
That night Lilly waited for Scotty to fall asleep, tiptoeing out of cabin and into the cold snow. The snow felt absolutely freezing but she didn’t feel anything, for an hour she stood there as the negative energy swirled around her. Letting her body hit the snow, Lilly waited to die she didn’t want to go on not being wanted or loved. Seconds later, Scotty woke and realized that she wasn’t lying there in the other bed. Grabbing his coat he headed outside and saw a figure with blonde hair lying embedded in the snow.
Panic ceased in as he rushed over and saw that is was in fact; Lillian Rush lying there. Her lips were blue but she was still alive. Taking his own coat off, Scotty placed it around her figure before carrying her back inside by the fire. Lilly’s body was still shaking profusely from the cold while holding the blanket closer to her. For hours they sat there letting the warmth from the fire keep then warmer.
Seconds later, Scotty looked down to see Lilly’s hand in his, her eyes were closed as her lips and cheeks were slowly regaining their normal color. But that wasn’t going to last, as her eyes reopened.
“You need some sleep” he whispered Lilly shook her head “I can’t be alone anymore”
Scotty saw the pain of loneliness in her eyes, tears fall from those blue eyes that once sparkled with light. He knew that Lilly wasn’t the same person he once knew; she was now helpless and sad. As the two got up slowly, Lilly headed back to her bed as Scotty lay next to her.
“ Sleep Lil” Lilly couldn’t sleep her heart was so sore and painful it made it hard to fall asleep, nothing seemed to matter anymore. Her mind kept flashing to the night that Joseph had broken up with her, she really wanted to work things out and be with him. But like all the others, he had given up and left her alone in the darkness once more. Another memory flashed to that first night at home alone without someone holding her close, not even her beloved cats could give her the comfort she really needed.
Turning back to Scotty who was holding her hand, Lilly knew exactly how much he really cared for her. Could this be love but did she want to be in another relationship so soon?

By morning, Scotty awoke with Lilly’s head on his shoulder. He smiled as her eyes opened, running his hands down her long hair.
“Sleep well” he asked
Lilly’s stomach let out a loud growl; it had been days since she had last eaten. Scotty knew that she wasn’t going to eat, not after what just happened last night. Her body weight had slimmed down more, making him worried.
“Eat Lil you can’t go on like this “he warned
She sighed before nibbling on a piece of toast, as much as Lilly had wanted to eat it was still painful to digest. Settling back down, the two watched the fire burning. Outside the snow was falling hard, making it impossible to go out.
“He didn’t love you, just made you think that” Whispered Scotty Lilly shed a tear “We used to curl up together like this” “Why was I such a fool “she spoke in a low voice Scotty held her close” Your not, but you need to go on with your life”.
Maybe Scotty was right; too much was making her sick emotionally speaking. But could she let go of past heartbreaks, her past? By the next day, the two took another long walk. By doing this Scotty hoped that it would help to clear Lilly’s mind. The woods was a winter wonderland, ice dancing off the trees the snow falling lightly it was truly breathtaking. While walking Lilly looked around her, the place was quiet and peaceful. Taking in a breath, it seemed to calm her restless heart. Walking alone the two fell down together, Scotty swore he saw a tiny smile peaking out of her face was she on the road to recovery or would she get worse ?

Lilly wasn’t in fact on the road to recovery but wasn’t getting any better. For days she would sit by the fire, staring straight ahead. Scotty became worried, he wanted to be there to love and care for her. Sure she was stubborn but for a good reason, spending whole her childhood being pushed away had done a lot of damage to her.
“Were you really happy with Joseph” he asked She pulled the blanket up closer to her “From the moment I saw him at the farmhouse that night; I knew he was the one”.
Drawing a hand onto her belly, she felt another pang of loneliness. Lilly could feel her own biological clock ticking away, as another year was added on to her age. Joseph sometime would talk about them having children, commenting how beautiful she would look pregnant. From that point on, this was just a memory floating away like a feather swept away by the wind.
Joseph was no longer in her life walking away from a broken woman with a lost soul. Scotty was right, he didn’t stay long to care but did he still think about her late at night all alone in bed? Did he miss the love that they shared or did he just love his cats more then her? Glancing at her partner, Lilly knew she was safe with him but for how long till he left her?
Lying back on the bed, Scotty whispered softly” You need to find happiness in yourself, it will save you”. His lips then pressed against her forehead, as a tears rolled from her eyes. Lilly held his hand closer to her chest, knowing how much he cared for her deeply.
“I’m here for you always and forever “he said stroking her face gently She let the tears fall from her eyes letting him see her pain as the night progressed.

One month later, Lilly was showing the signs of recovery but she still had relapses every now and then. The weather was cold and snowy, making her feel more depressed. Scotty took her hand as they got on their coats. He wanted to take her somewhere that might make her feel more relaxed, that is an indoor pool.
Scotty smiled “Get in Lil”.
Lilly sat at the edge of the pool, with her feet in the cool water “I can’t swim Scotty.
With one motion he pulled her gently into the pool, as the cool water touched her body sending chills all around. “Fall back” he whispered into her ear. Turning around she looked at him, with unenthusiastic thoughts lurking in the back of her mind. Lilly knew that Scotty wasn’t going to hurt her in anyway; he was the only one in this world who really cared and was concerned for her. Letting her body fall back, Scotty put one arm underneath her slender body and a hand tucked underneath her head. Lilly then closed her eyes as she floated around in the water as he guided her.
The water felt relaxing, cool and refreshing as she started to breathe in deeply. Her body was starting to relax itself as her mind was beginning to draw a blank. No thoughts of Joseph, Ray or her childhood entered her mind, only the hope of finding happiness in her. Opening up her eyes, Lilly stood her feeling a rush of relaxation throughout her entire body. Getting out of the pool, Scotty wrapped a towel around her body before she headed into the locker room to change.
On the walk back to the cabin, she took a moment to notice everything around her. From the snow falling from the darkened sky to feel of the cold wind brushed against her face, Lilly could feel a sense of life reentering her soul. Maybe for once she could try to concentrate on the present instead of the past. By nightfall, the two sat outside watching the stars in the sky as tiny flurries flew from a cloud. It was truly breathtaking for one to see.
“You been quiet all day, what’s up” Scotty asked Lilly gave a tiny smile” Just thinking that’s all “as she felt him kiss her on the cheek before heading inside. Now all alone, she closed her eyes and started to meditate focusing on the sound of her heartbeat. As it was heard thumping softly, she then continued to breathe in softly before the air got too cold for her to concentrate.
Heading inside, Lilly lay down staring at Scotty who was sleeping. Letting a couple of tears drip down her face, she could feel those negative feeling returning. Scotty awoke sometime later to see her face full of tears again. Holding her close he could feel her heart racing faster and faster.
“Who hurt you Lil” he asked concerned Lilly took in a breath as she began to tell him about everything, Scotty listened without passing any judgment. As she finished he ran his hand through her hair, as she began to cry hysterically.
“It’s not your fault, you deserve to be loved Lil “he whispered She kept her head buried in his chest “Nobody will ever love me long enough to stay” Scotty then stroked her face” You are not going to land up alone, for one your too beautiful for that”.

Lilly shunned away and closed her eyes, afraid to love again. As much as she wanted to could she is able to go through it all and have a successful relationship? Two weeks passed with a good sign that she was getting better. Scotty had taken her out to dinner at least two times and went dancing, He had never seen that side to her before, or even knew how good of a dancer she really was.
One night as they sat by the fire, Scotty looked over at her “Are you ready to return to Philly yet”? Lilly nodded “I’ll bet Vera’s going crazy without us there”. He then spoke again” You mean with his nurses or cases”? She laughed as they slid off the couch and began to pack.
After packing, Lilly was nervous about returning but on the other hand, she wanted to get back to work; Justice was calling out her name. The next morning, she took one more look around before getting into the car. Scotty hung up the phone as he began to drive away.
“So when do I return to work” she asked Scotty sighed “Boss doesn’t want you to until you are completely better”.
Lilly wasn’t surprised she herself was feeling a hundred percent; there were days that she felt a relapse coming on. Her mind still didn’t feel right, besides Stillman was right. As they entered Pennsylvania, her heart began to race. Would she start a happier life or would resume with the old all alone one? As Scotty looked over he could see the tears start to form in her eyes again, he hoped this wasn’t another relapse she was doing so well.
Scotty had decided to move in to keep Lilly Company while she recovered, he slept on the couch but not that well. On some nights he could hear her crying out softly in her dreams for a few minutes before it all stopped. He missed her on his first day back to work, especially when the teams was digging out an unsolved case. Meanwhile Lilly was out and about shopping for some new clothes.
The day was absolutely perfect as she strolled down the street with some bags in tow, briefly stopping at home to drop them off. Walking some more, she felt so alive but a part of her wasn’t. Out from the corner of her eyes Lilly saw Joseph, Putting on a pair of sunglasses to hide her teary eyes, she passed by him invisible like a ghost. Making her way home the tears were wiped away, Lilly knew she had to move on but the feelings were returning.
A few hours later as Scotty entered her apartment; he followed the cats upstairs to see that she wasn’t home. A note was written neatly but dampened with tears:
Scotty, I can’t live like this anymore, being alone. It’s getting too painful and lonely for me to handle. So I’m saying good-bye now, before you find my lifeless body in the countryside over water. You have been the only person who understands me but I’ll be happy without living in this world. -- L---- Eyes wide open; Scotty immediately knew what bridge she was talking about. Hurrying out to his car, he wanted to save her before it was too late. Meanwhile Lilly was looking down at the river at that long drop to the end. Stepping out onto the ledge she breathed a prayer as the wind blew her hair around. Racing up Scotty saw her and ran as fast as he could.
“Don’t jump Lil that isn’t the way”.
Lilly shed another tear “Then what is Scotty, I’m not needed in this world I never was”.
“That’s not true; I can’t imagine you not being by your side”
She then stepped forward as Scotty came closer, before loosing her balance as he grabbed onto her hand tight. It was right now a matter of life or death which could go either way. Looking down Lilly was scared; she didn’t want to die not now and not this way. As Scotty pulled her up, her head was buried in his chest crying softly.

Excellent story thus far.
I must confess that parts of this story have had a small influence on my fanfic "Obsedian Unconscious" (for example in both the stories Lilly is struggling with a feeling of being unloved.")

He kissed her as he held one of her hands in his “Will you marry me” Lilly looked up at him with tears in her eyes “Nobody wants me, you know that”
“Why would I stay with you all this time if I didn’t” Scotty whispered She could see the love in his eyes as he slid the ring down the appropriate finger, his lips meeting hers for second. Scotty wasn’t rushing getting married since he wanted her to get well before they walked down the aisle. So awhile Lilly lay in his arm glancing at the dazzling ring on her finger. Was this a symbol of a new start, would they still be able to work together or be separated she wondered?
Around nightfall, Lilly was alone while Scotty went to first Thursdays. She wanted to be happy but then everything went wrong as her fists once again smashed the mirror in the bathroom as the blood seeped out of her. Locking the bedroom door, she pushed a nightstand behind it and sat down crying. Her entire hand was radiating with pain but Lilly didn’t care, drawing up a piece of glass to her other wrist.
Moving away the piece of furniture, Lilly put on a dark hood jacket and headed out the door. This time she wasn’t going to leave any clues behind, she wanted to disappear like a ghost forever. The question was she running from her past or the broken heart that was beating deep inside?
Around 11pm, Scotty panicked when he saw the door was wide open. Running upstairs there was blood all over the carpets, not enough to prove a suicide or murder but enough to say that Lilly once again smashed the mirror. Glass was strung all over the place, her gun; badge and cell phone were all in their proper places except her. Standing in the bedroom, Scotty didn’t know where she would go next but was worried.
Stillman saw how frantic he was “Where’s Lil” Scotty was close to tears “I came home and she was gone” The older man looked at him with compassion” Go find her, she needs you”
Lilly was too far for anyone to reach her, staying in an abandoned home she sat there with tears flowing out of her eyes with the diamond ring still on her finger.

All night long Scotty searched long hard hours for Lilly with no sign, he wasn’t about to give up all hope. A thought lingered in his mind “ What if she really did this time kill herself, would I be able to myself to live without her”?
On the other side of town , Lilly smelled smoke coming from the other side of the house. Trained as a police officer she knew that there was danger ahead, but did she want to die in here like this? Fire then broke out as Lilly tried to escape, but all of the exits were blocked. Nearby Scotty knew a small park where she would go to clear her mind, walking closer he saw smoke rising from a boarded up house
“Scotty” a voice called out Fire was bursting out of the windows as he heard Lilly coughing loudly inside. She knew through the good times and the bad that Scotty always would protect her. He then did just that scolding his hand on the hot door, but it proved to be way to hot for him to enter. The then unthinkable happened; the house blew up into a ball of flames. His heart nearly stopped knowing he had just lost the love of his life. Out of the blue, Lilly stood there weak and scared hiding behind a tree.
“Don’t you ever do that again” he was nearly crying himself Her wrists were still bleeding as Scotty tried his best to apply pressure before helping her in to the car.
“Where are we going “Lilly asked quietly?

By the time the car had stopped she had fallen asleep, as Scotty carried her into a hotel near the coastline of Rhode Island. His eyes looked at her sleeping form with passion, as he gently placed her down on the bed. Bandaging up both wrists, Scotty could feel her quickening pulse beating underneath his fingertips. Lilly looked so delicate like a flower but lost like a baby bird alone in a nest Lying down next to her, all he could hear was the sound of her breathing in and out , knowing that tonight he wasn’t going to get any sleep.
Sometime after midnight, Lilly awoke crying “Don’t leave me alone, I can’t take it anymore”.
Bring his hand onto her back, he began to gently rub knowing she was still very much asleep. To his surprise , Lilly was wide awake with tears falling from her eyes.
Holding her tightly , he planted a kiss on her cheek “ You have to let it out, even if it’s painful it’s keeping you from the things that make you happy”. She nodded but wasn’t so sure, trust wasn’t one of those things that was easy for her to do.
Will Lilly get better or worse , stay tuned TBC

As several weeks passed, Lilly was recovering very well. Her life was starting to turn from unpleasant to happy not from love but finding out what happiness really meant to her.
Sometimes she would sit on the rocks over looking the water and enjoy the surrounding. The warmth of the sun, the smell in the air and the wind flowing through her hair. Maybe life wasn’t such a terrible thing, but who could see all that with negative thoughts surrounding her like a stone wall? Later one some nights, they go dancing all along on the boardwalk without any music but the one in their heads. As Lilly made the one month mark without an emotional outburst, she knew herself that her mind, body and soul were all recovering.
Upon returning, Lilly was gearing up for four months of missed work she was happy to return to a job that she was good at. But when her phone rang, it showed a person from her past : Joseph. Turning off the phone, she knew all he wanted was to hurt her emotionally again, it wasn’t worth talking to someone like that. On the other side, Joseph ordered up another drink as he saw her partner walk into the bar.
After talking to Stillman, Scotty overheard some not so nice things about Lilly.
“What a whack Job, that detective Lillian Rush is so beautiful but yet acts like a total fool. As I dump her she begs me not to leave her. Then as I’m walking out she yells out in tears” I don’t want to be alone” Joseph laughed with his buddies. From across the room, Scotty stood there with anger in his eyes and fists clenched.
Nobody made a fool out of Lillian Rush, nobody. Getting up, Scotty punched Joseph in the face “You talk about Lil again this way and I’ll see to it that you never see again”.
Joseph then started to fight hard, before Scotty knocked him down bleeding from his nose. Wiping the blood away he walked away, knowing that someone like him didn’t deserve to love her. Pushing the key into the door, Lilly saw the blood on his face. Without any question he headed upstairs to change. She sighed tomorrow was going to be the longest, and painful day of her life.

Thanks Jambled
Pulling up her hair back into a bun, Lilly avoided any contact with the mirror for psychological reasons. Putting on her coat, she stepped outside into the cold Philadelphia air. Sitting on a bench, the coldness numbed her cheeks as someone sat down next to her. Looking over, Stillman was there looking at her.
“I’m not mad at you Lil” he spoke gently
Lilly kept looking at the frozen lake” You wanted to have me committed “
“ I know I was wrong, Scotty did the right thing for you"
She kept on focusing on her breathing to avoid a conversation, as Stillman began to talk again.
“When you were attacked, that night you won’t let anyone touch you all but one person. That was me; I held you close to soothe the pain. Even when they wired your jaw, that was the first and last time that I’d seen you cry. Do you remember what I told you”?
Tears escaped her eyes “That you will always be there to protect and love me, like I was one of your own”. Stillman then looked into her eyes “And didn’t I all this time, just like Scotty does now”.
Lilly then let him hold her, for a second Stillman looked down to see a younger version of her flashing about to the present day. Breaking away, squeezed her hand before getting up. He knew in his heart that she was getting better day by day. For a moment he watched before getting into his car as Scotty pulled up not too far away.
“I’ve been looking for you all morning”
She turned to him “I’m fine Scotty; it’s not what you are thinking”.
Scotty then sat down as Lilly rested her head on his shoulder, hearing his heart beat thumping softly into her ear. It was calm making her feel relaxed and loved; maybe people did love her after all.
Walking hand in hand, the two headed down the street when Joseph saw them.
“Now isn’t that weird, first it’s Ray now Scotty, Can’t keep it together huh Lil” he snorted
Lilly looked down not wanting to look the man who hurt her, Scotty gave a look that could kill before punching him. Still a cop, she knew it was wrong but a part of her wanted to see Joseph go down.
“Stay away from Lil; you hear “Scotty warned
Joseph looked at her “How can you love such a messed up piece of trash like her”?
“ She risked her job, gave you her heart and what do you do in return; love her then toss her out like garbage on a highway alone and forgotten”.
Stillman the pointed his gun on him “How dare you talk like that about her, when you also had a shady past”?
Joseph froze knowing he had an angry man to deal with
Vera and Jefferies also were there, as Lilly and Scotty snuck away heading straight home. Sometime later, she was sitting on the edge of the bed watching the snow fall from the sky.
“Am I really that messed up, from growing up the way that I did. Do people see me as a women with a troubled past or a person that seeks the truth? Why am I still loving Joseph after what he had done tonight and before, is it because he gave me a sense of Security and love that I desperately so needed “ she wondered.
Scotty then pulled her down slowly, so they both were facing each other, “No matter what anyone thinks or says, you will always be beautiful to me”.
Leaning over, he kissed her on the lips as they began to make love slowly. Several days passed as two started to plan out their wedding, Scotty wanted it to be perfect, and making this is the start of her new life.
Back at work, Lilly was still getting harassing phone calls from Joseph. An hour after that her mother arrived stirring up more trouble. Two hours of heartache and sucking in tears, one hour of trying to compose her in the bathroom before an interrogation and six hours till she was finally home again. Over and over again, she kept telling herself that she’d be okay but it wasn’t.

The last part of this story
It was day that Lilly had always dreamed about, wearing her wedding dress she uncovered the mirror and looked at her reflection. The dress was strapless shaping her figure well; her hair was up allowing just two stands to be loose and curly. For the first time, her hand didn’t smash what was being shown. A smile crept onto Lilly’s face which didn’t show any ounce of sadness but happiness instead.
Arriving at the church, a dozen vibrant roses were in her hands as the music began to slowly play. Stillman took her arm as she began to walk down the aisle, to the man who truly loved her. A hand went to her stomach but it wasn’t butterflies at all but a tiny little life that was growing inside of her. As Lilly stood next to Scotty, the two held each other’s hand.
After they said their I do’s the two turned to each other and kissed. As bubbles were being released Scotty carried her out of the church and down the stairs. Lilly’s radiant smile was everywhere, as everyone congratulated her. From across the street, Joseph had to do a double take he never seen anything beautiful in all his life.
Lilly had noticed him too but didn’t care; she knew from now on that her past was locked away with a key never to be opened again not by her or anyone else. Taking a deep breath, Scotty planted a kiss on her cheek as they were whisked away to a catering hall.
About Four months after the wedding, As Lilly was leaving work she had noticed Joseph sitting outside the station. Not wanting to look at the man who once broke her heart into a million pieces, Lilly turned away and kept on walking.
“Lil, we need to talk” Joseph said calmly
Stopping dead in her tracks she avoided his eyes “Why I’m just a messed up piece of trash, why do you care”?
Joseph sighed “I was mad but realized that you were the best thing that’s ever happened to me”.
“You just realized that now, a year after the fact” she scorned
Stepping closer he knew about her meltdown but realizing how much strong Lilly was now. Seeing her walk away he turned and spoke one last time “You do look beautiful pregnant”.
Without a word, Lilly joined Scotty at the corner as they began to walk home. Joseph was her past a nobody in her book. Her life was beginning to get happier, as five months later they two held each other in bed. Lilly glanced over at her sleeping daughter as Scotty kissed her neck.
“You better now” he asked
Lilly smiled “I’m not alone anymore”
That was the truth; she had found happiness in herself, a good husband, job and a beautiful new baby to be happy about. Nobody could ever give her that happiness that was flowing through her veins. The scars on Lilly’s wrists were healed, leaving a tiny mark that was invisible to her eyes. Life was good, maybe all she ever needed was to have faith in herself..
