WOW, first off Welcome back Cold Case!! The case well was alright, but Kat and ADA Bell kissing , was probably the highlight of this episode. As for Lilly needing ten stitches to the back of her head, and Moe going free, I feel for her. The ending I liked with her in the back blaring her headlights at Moe, she was pratically stalking him. Lilly's one angry person, it was pretty funny with her barging into the men's bathroom, to speak with ADA Bell. I really didn't enjoy this case, it was too blah for me. It lacked something to it, and it didn't really move me at all. Plus I knew all along who had done it.

It's really late for me. I liked what they did with the opener and the continuity of storyline from last season. There was much I liked about the detective storylines from Kat and the ADA to Vera's shoes! ;D That look from Lilly at the very end of the episode reminded me of McCauley Caulkin's expression in the movie "The Good Son". Very creepy. The death scene didn't make any sense to me. Her body lay there for 43 years and no one found it? That was totally too far fetched for me.

actually the death scene was one of the lousiest scenes in this episode, quite stupid. It didn't really move me about couldn't even feel anything for the victim

Kool my first real post.
The case was okay. Couldn't really feel for the victim. Kat & Curtis was cute. All because he didn't kiss heron their first date, but he sure as hell made it up to her in the office. ;)I was sure Nick was gonna see them through the blinds or something. lol. But Kat Miller getting all giddy? Loved it. Wonder who's gonna find out about them. What's with this team and ADA's huh?
Lilly getting creepy on us. :oSomeone needs to watch her back, or maybe they all need to watch their backs, cause who knows, he may not just be after her, he may be after all of them, and they got eight months to make sure everything goes smoothly. Ofcourse, well all know it won't.

My jaw dropped I was like OMFG. And Lilly in court! Like erg I hate moe!!! But it is going to me an amazing season!!!!!!!! I love the touch of Vera and his shoes LOL

It lacked something to it, and it didn't really move me at all. Plus I knew all along who had done it. My sentiments exactly. The main case itself felt like a lot of "been there-done that": -Two girls from a humble background joining an elite group or setting ("Look Again", "Stand Up and Holler", "Beautiful Little Fool") -The victim is a fiery, independant woman ahead of her time. ("Wings", "Jackals", "Torn", "Revolution", "The Hen House") -She falls for a dashing, mysterious man. ("World's End", "Wings", "Jackals", "Revolution", "Beautiful Little Fool") -She ditches a stifling life with her husband or husband-to-be. ("Revolution", "Torn", "World's End", "Beautiful Little Fool") -She's thrown from a high place to her death. ("The Sleepover", "Torn", "Factory Girls", "Debut") -The doer was her less-fortunate friend. ("Stand Up and Holler", "The Sleepover", "Pin Up Girl", "The Goodbye Room") The actress who played the victim even looks like Kate Mara, who was the victim in "Look Again"! The B-stories were where it's at. Miller hooking up with Bell, Moe's trial and Lilly's reaction to him getting bail. Now THAT'S some good stuff. I'm not sure why they included the little spat between Stillman and Doherty in the "Previously on Cold Case", but it's nice to know that hasn't been forgotten either.

I actually pinpointed Grace to be the killer since the scene in that one room with the piano. The case itself didn't grab me, but the other plots did.
I was pretty amazed at Lilly's rather gung ho attitude towards Moe, and his release. The very ending also creeped me out.
I will be figuring out if there's any type of symbolism going on here. The fact that Lilly had to get 12 stitches says something to me.

The death scene didn't make any sense to me. Her body lay there for 43 years and no one found it? That was totally too far fetched for me. Naj, I believe Grace is supposed to have moved the body to a lower portion of the engine room. Still, I agree that it's odd that during the decommissioning of the ship, no one noticed the smell of decaying flesh. Her body would've stunk like hell! That omission kinda ruined it for me, but I did enjoy the rest of the story. This wasn't the kind of adrenalin-pumping season premiere like "Rampage" or even "Thrill Kill", but I'm happy that it's fall again and to see another season of Cold Case come to our television once more. I'm ready to have the show wrench my gut again with their tragic stories! Over the summer, the real-life story of Yale grad student Annie Le's murder made me realize that a lot of these "heat of the moment" murders actually do happen. So while on one hand I thought this episode was "Good", it also was an interestingly timely reminder that ordinary people can commit murder when they don't see eye-to-eye with someone else. The "SS United States", docked on the Delaware River in South Philly appears to have been the inspiration of this episode. It's been gathering dust there for over a decade. Wilkes-Barre is a town about 90 miles Northwest of Philly, and it's a neighboring town to Scranton (of "The Office" fame). It's pretty much one of those "all-American" small towns, and I think in the last several presidential elections many candidates stop there on their campaign trail. If you remembered this, then you'd probably catch the humor in someone calling themselves the Duke (Count?) of Wilkes-Barre. The town has nearly absolutely nothing to do with European royalty! I liked how at the very beginning, they filmed Grace through the back of a chair, and I knew it was a foreshadowing of her guilt. Also, nice use of recurring imagery and themes, such as the cross in Grace's pendant, the use of the color Red during a heated exchange, and alcohol as a possible symbolic indication of moral weakness. I like those small touches!

Slight technical flub. Darcy supposedly got her birth control pills at a pharmacy in Paris. Birth control pills weren't legal in France until 1967.

This episode could have been better, but I was more into what happened to Lilly than how Darcy had died.

As far as the case goes, I give the episode a "Good" overall. As far as the detective storyline, I would have given the episode much higher. Back in season two (remember then?) there was much interest in having George Marks live and stalk Lilly. Well, okay in my mind only because he was the most memorable character of the series by far and there was a desire to see him utilized. I think the writers, etc., have taken a good idea and expanded upon it - Lilly stalking Moe. I forgot to mention, I loved the shot of Vera's terrible shoes - the way they did it! ;D toddsmitts said:Thank you for the recap of the specific episodes. Along with that, and I've said this before: It seems like they've "lost the punch" on providing the buildup to the actual committing the crime. And, I've also said this before: "One of the capstone's of the show was making me feel for the victim." Have I become that de-sensitized over this series? I don't think I have. TheReverendBizarre said:I agree, these two factors have my mind pondering. Also, what really happened to Lilly in the submersed car to make her mind go this way? Did she have an NDE? Did her brain loose some needed oxygen and affected that portion of her brain and now some darkness is seeping out? (See Into the Blue thread for that discussion or if you have 100 posts check out McGinty's Tavern). boxman said:Still, if that is the case Grace moved the body, somebody would come through there even if the ship had been decommissioned. That part just stuck out like a sore thumb! ;D Actually it downgraded the case to "hokey". I mean, even when Stillman and Lilly and Scotty first came upon the scene, I was laughing at the ridiculousness of it all and there the actors were trying to make it look plausible but they were unsuccessful at salvaging that scene. I'm sorry, but it was bad! As far as no adrenaline pumping season premiere, I'm glad the writers made this for the fan following. Personally, I was so tired of previous seasons (4 and prior) ignoring the content of the previous season ender. Lastly, I definitely agree: "Bring on the gut wrenching realness of these stories back to life this season". As an aside: Nice to see you back, sir! ETA: boxman's mention of Wilkes-Barre and Scranton. Those two cities are truly depressing. I haven't been there for ten years, though, but I can't imagine it is any better.

I pretty much agree with everyone about the actual case in the episode, it didn't really get my attention, but it was better than last years premiere. toddsmitts, very well said, now that you mention it, it is like all of those previous episodes rolled into one. I was more interested in the character development of the detectives. Bell kissing Kat , priceless I'm rooting for those two, loved it. Lilly's little smirk at the beginning in court was so cute but to bad he's walking. But of course, if he did get thrown in jail that would be way too boring and we'd have nothing to bite our nails over. Lilly's freaking out but I think she's gotten some of that spunk and fire back that I've missed from the first seasons, loved the part when she cornered Bell in the bathroom. I'm looking forward to see what happens & what she does to Moe, it's gonna be good. And of course, as always, KM looked great, didn't she?

I liked the idea. I liked the possibly all of the things Lilly ran from has finally caught up to her. I think Lilly pushed all the good and the bad from her childhood down. I think she tried deny the abuse, she tried not to feel anything at all, because that was the only way she could function. Then by reuniting with her father, she allowed herself to actually feel something good. Only now that the emotional door is open, the bad is flooding in, too. Remember the reason George picked her as his executioner was because he thought she was like him. And while I don’t believe for one second Lilly will become a psycho with a collection of heads in her back yard, I do think that she has an incredible amount of pain stored up from her childhood. Its been established that when Lilly feels pain, she transmutes it to anger, and that’s how she’s been able to fight for survival. So now all that anger she’s been storing up for 38 years just found a target.
Or not.
You mileage may vary.

Finally, I seen the spunk and the fire from Lilly as we seen in the first couple of seasons! ;D
The case itself was just really not that interesting, but the story lines with the characters were awesome. Vera and his shoes, Kat getting her groove back, & of course Lilly creeping me out a little in the last shot. There was something dark and a little sadistic about the way she was looking at his car as he drove off.

ok just watched it and while i am really really happy that its back i have to say the whole discovery of the body scene was totally unbeievable. no way her clothes would be that clean and not disintegrated.
kat and bell were so cute tho and the whole lilly moe plot should be interesting. just glad its back to be honest!
